NEWS UPDATE4 November 2022 Publishers noteIt very much looks like many are approaching the end of year with a whole lot of optimism. Yesterday, the Sanctuary Cove team opened industry bookings for space for their 2023 show. Mulpha Events General Manager Johan Hasser was joined by industry leaders declaring they are expecting to exceed previous year’s exhibitor numbers. If this is the case, and I truly hope it is, it confirms my belief in the value, and positive returns to all stakeholders, of good, quality boat shows. Boat Shows have been at the forefront of the growth in the participation of the lifestyle our industry survives off. For those who know me well will know that I have other business interests, and I can say with good authority that consumers are returning to shows in astonishing numbers. I do hope our industry nurtures the boat shows we had back to life and uses them to help our industry prosper. In other news, Michelle continues her journey, and this week has spoken of challenging days. Who doesn’t love our industry for the diversity it delivers. At one end of the scale, we share news of hydrogen technology and at the other end, we tell the story of craftsmanship in demand. We have stories of investment in our emergency response services, new facilities for boaties, a new Quintrex dealer in Sydney’s north, an update on the Sydney to Hobart, news about the World Match Racing Tour, an announcement from Yamaha about a sponsorship and a new release from Suzuki, just to name a few. Exhibitor applications are now open for the highly anticipated Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show 2023 (SCIBS), which will take place May 25-28. After the sold out 2022 event – which saw over 45,000 visitors and 334 exhibitors with 607 boats on show and over 1000 marine products – SCIBS has been inundated with exhibitor enquiries. McConaghy to build ETNZ Chase Zero boatsWhen the Protocol for the 37th America’s Cup was announced, one of the key initiatives aside from the re-vamped rules for the AC75 and the initiation of the new AC40’s for the Youth & Women’s America’s Cup, was the introduction of Hydrogen powered chase boats that all teams must build. Craftsmanship in demand The Wooden Boatshop produces their own range of timber boats and will showcase their skills at the 2023 Australian Wooden Boat Festival, 10 to 13 February in Hobart. Situated in Sorrento on the Mornington Peninsula, The Wooden Boatshop is a hub for hand-made timber boats, crafted by experts intent on preserving traditional boatbuilding skills. Michelle Lee’s Journey – Day 80Michelle’s continues to share her fascinating story. I spoke to her a couple of days prior to this update and she told me that she had travelled 4,000 nm. Whilst the distance between departure and planned arrival point was 7,500 nm, her journey would be longer given the route she will take. Michelle was also hugely grateful to Roger ‘Clouds’ Badham who is guiding every move she makes. Located along Marina Drive, adjacent to the 168-berth Coffs Harbour International Marina, it is conveniently located at the midway point between Sydney and Gold Coast. Suzuki Marine launches integrated steeringSuzuki Marine has again raised the engineering bar in the outboard motor space, unveiling an optional integrated steering system for its flagship DF300B and DF350A 4.4-litre V6 models. The design incorporates a simple rack and pinion design and eliminates the requirement for a conventional steering cylinder’s integration onto the front of the outboard to control the steering axis.
