Thursday Edition
Good morning members, and welcome to another wonderful Thursday! We hope you’re all enjoying your day so far. We have an exciting lineup in store for you, so without further ado, let’s get started, shall we?
First things first, it’s time to give you all the answer to yesterday’s tricky riddle. For those of you who don’t remember, the riddle goes:
“What day is it?” Professor Fawg-Etfull asked an Irish Policeman. “The day after the day after tomorrow will be the day before the day before Sunday.” Replied the Constable. What day is it?
This was a tricky one, eh? We had to look at it backwards to get the right answer. The day before Sunday = Saturday. The day before the day before Sunday = Friday. So the day after the day after tomorrow is Friday. Therefore the correct answer is Tuesday, because the day after the day after tomorrow (Wednesday) is Friday. Whew - even after writing the answer down we're still sort of scratching our heads. Anyway, if you got it right, stick around, and you’ll find a shoutout waiting for you at the end of the newsletter.
Next up on the agenda, folks, is our Fascinating Fact for the week!
Did you know that it’s considered impolite to use first names in Japan? In fact, most Japanese people only use first names with close family members and very good friends. Instead, they use last names with titles such as “-san” (Mr. or Mrs.) or “-sensei” (teacher). You can only call Japanese people by their first names if they invite you to do so. So, if you’re ever in Japan, be sure to mind your manners!

Who here had a shaggin wagon back in the day? They were basically brightly coloured panel vans with a sound system, a built-in fridge, and murals on the sides. They were all the rage in the 1970s and 1980s and were perfect for drive-ins. And who can forget the saying, 'When the wagons are rocking, don't come knockin.' 😂

Frozen in time
How interesting is this photo posted by @Algieboy? It's a photo of the famous old water wheel that has been completely encased in solid limestone in Cape Leeuwin, Australia's most south-westerly point. It was built to help pump water from a spring up to the lighthouse cottages, and the wood has been coated in and replaced by minerals over the years. It has now calcified and become frozen in time, like a stalagmite. What a fascinating piece of history! Thank you, @Algieboy, for sharing this with us.

The Italian physicist Alessandro Volta is generally credited with having developed the first operable battery. Following up on the earlier work of his compatriot Luigi Galvani, Volta performed a series of experiments on electrochemical phenomena during the 1790s. By about 1800, he had built his simple battery, which later came to be known as the “voltaic pile."
