Fact of the day

Chemistry of firework colours

Yesterday

Have you ever wondered why fireworks are so colourful? It's all thanks to special metal salts inside them, which create different coloured flames. For example, strontium makes red, and copper makes blue. So when you see a fireworks show, you're actually seeing mixes of these metal salts lighting up the sky!
