Issue 882 Thursday, 4 December 2025
A multitude of new aviation connections have expanded global access to Western Australia as we continue to strengthen the state’s position as Australia’s Western Gateway. The first highlight is the return of China Southern Airlines’ nonstop service from Guangzhou to Perth/Boorloo, which has made its seasonal return this week. The direct route is expected to drive significant inbound tourism from WA’s largest tourism market by spend and will operate three times per week until March 2026, with a seasonal uplift to four times per week from 14 December until 1 March. With 65,000 visitors from China contributing $457 million to the state's economy in the year ending June 2025, the return of this route is fantastic news for WA’s tourism industry. Adding to the excitement, Cathay Pacific is now operating twice daily flights from Hong Kong to Perth, and Malaysia Airlines has upscaled to double daily flights between Kuala Lumpur and Perth, while All Nippon Airways has increased its Tokyo to Perth service to daily services until 19 April 2026, and Jetstar has just launched a direct connection between Manila and Perth. These expansions are particularly significant, as visitors from Asia account for approximately 50 per cent of all international arrivals to WA. The success will continue when two new non-stop Qantas routes to Perth from Auckland and Johannesburg take off this Sunday, delivering nearly 80,000 additional inbound seats annually. Supported by Tourism WA, these services not only cater to the strong demand from family, leisure,
and business travellers but also open new opportunities for visitors from New Zealand and South Africa. With 23 international airlines now operating 20 non-stop routes into the Dream State, these additional services will drive tourism growth and make it easier for more visitors to experience everything WA has to offer. Warm regards, Tourism WA Executive Management Team.
