Message from Board Chair

Our first sampling event of the year is complete, and we hope many of you were able to participate.  We are all learning how things work best using our new sampling protocols and the data portal, and we greatly appreciate your patience as we work diligently to make adjustments and improvements!

Remember - Sampling kits and R-card supplies will be available for checkout at the Support Hubs.
Be sure to seek out your nearest Hub for access to these sampling resources and reach out to them to confirm their readiness to help you. If you do not have a nearby Hub and need to make other arrangements, please email us at contact@kywater.org.

All fully trained samplers should have received the invitation email granting access to the data portal by now.
Please take some time to log in, navigate through its features, and enter your 2025 sampling results.

Important - Please help KWW with planning for sampling supply distribution by completing the Sampling Calendar on your Profile in the data portal.
You can indicate which months you plan to sample and the number of sites for which you will need R-card supplies.

Thanks for your interest, enthusiasm, and involvement!

Data Portal News

Recent additions to the portal include:

  • Announcements on the opening Dashboard page

  • FAQs and responses on the Help page of the portal

  • A Connect button under the site sample listing that will allow volunteers to reach out to each other for possible collaboration. To enable others to connect with you, you should update the Sampler Connections setting in your Profile page of the data portal.

(Hint: Click on the square icon with your initials at the bottom of the menu bar to find your Profile page.)

We are continuing to establish additional Support Hub locations where they are needed. Find them on the website and in the data portal.
Please reach out to contact@kywater.org if you do not have a Support Hub in your area.

Please review these IMPORTANT Best Practices for Utilizing Hub Services:

  • Reach out to your nearest Hub contact before visiting to confirm that someone will be available to help you and ensure that supplies are ready.

  • Return loaned equipment in a timely manner and in good (clean) condition, preferably within 2-3 days so that others can use it. This is especially important for borrowed incubators!

  • Find out who else is sharing your Support Hub and consider collaborating on sampling, data discussion, and water quality improvement efforts.

  • Thank your Hub for agreeing to support KWW with its sampling program!!!

Training for Habitat and Biological Assessments

  • The Habitat Assessment (Module 6) and Biological Assessment (Module 7) online training modules are now available for you to complete.

  • We are beginning to schedule in-person training sessions. Check the Event Calendar on the website for details and registration.

  • We are working to add data portal entry capability for habitat and biological assessment findings. Once these portal functions are ready, they will be available to samplers who have completed the online and in-person training components.

Thanks to funding from the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth, KWW is now able to hire a Programming Coordinator to support various essential activities.  If you are interested, please visit the Job Opportunities page on our website to learn more.

Kentucky Watershed Watch relies on donations to maintain its programming and reach additional samplers.
