Saturday Edition
Good morning, members, and welcome to another fantastic Saturday! We hope you’re all having a bit of a rest after a busy week. We know we are! We’re excited for today because not only is it the weekend, but we also have a jam-packed newsletter for you all. So make yourself comfortable, grab a cuppa, and let’s get started!
First, let’s look at the answer to yesterday’s riddle. So what was it again?
This 8-letter word can have a letter removed and still be a word. Remove another letter, and it still makes a word. Keep on doing that until you have one letter left. What is the word?
And the word is starting! So if you take away one letter, you’re left with staring. Take away another letter, and you’re left with string. Keep going, and you’re left with sting, sing, sin, in, and finally, I. This one had quite a few of you stumped, but a few of you got it right! So, if you managed to get the answer correct, you’ll find a shoutout waiting for you
further down this newsletter.
Now, onto our next segment, ‘What Would the Grandkids Say.’ Today, we’re looking at the phrase ‘that escalated quickly.’ This phrase is often used when a scenario goes from relatively calm to out-of-hand and intense. It can be used to describe a fight that gets physical or a situation that gets heated very quickly. It can also be used to describe how a small problem can quickly turn into a bigger one. So next time something goes wrong and things start to get out of hand, just remember to keep calm and say ‘that escalated quickly’ 😉
So, what’s happening across Australia and the world today?

Remember when you had to get a licence to watch TV or listen to the radio? In 1957, TV viewers had to pay 5 pounds for their viewing pleasure, plus an additional 2 pounds 15 shillings for radio. Nonpayment was punishable by fines of up to 50 pounds. And to avoid penalties, people began hiding their TV antennas in chimneys and roofs, and TV sets were even hidden in cupboards. The Whitlam government eventually abolished them in 1974. Thankfully, those days are over, and we can now watch our favourite shows without fear of the TV cops showing up at our door.

The first colour wheel was presented by Sir Isaac Newton in the 17th century when he first discovered the visible spectrum of light. Around this time, colour was thought to be a product of the mixing of light and dark, with red being the “most light” and blue the “most dark”. Newton saw that this theory was flawed and began testing the properties of white light. His classic prism experiment noted that white light is composed of various colours.
