Saturday Edition
G’Day, members! Happy Saturday! I hope you’ve got your cuppa, a hot cross bun, and a small choccy ready to enjoy the newsletter with. I’ve actually done something a little different this morning. I’ve actually done something a little different this morning. I’ve toasted my hot cross bun (traditional, of course) and made my morning coffee, but before I poured my coffee in, I added one of those mini easter eggs to the cup, so I poured my coffee onto the egg and watched it melt into my coffee. I’m sure I’m not the first person in the world to do this, but I just had to share the idea with you all, in case you too would enjoy a bit of a chocolate twist to your morning cuppa?
Anyhow, I know you aren’t here to read my Easter recipes, you’re here to find out the answer to yesterday’s riddle! Now, before we jump into it, I just want to remind you lot that the SDC team is off on leave, enjoying Easter with their beautiful families, so we don’t have our usual riddle masters shout-out in today’s newsletter, but I still wanted to take a moment to congratulate each and every one of you who got the riddle correct! Sorry I haven’t been able to pull all of your names into today’s newsletter, but I’m a one-man-show at the moment folks, and the show must go on! 😉 Here’s a reminder of yesterday’s riddle…
I am a 5 letter word. Take away the first letter and I am a place's name. Take away the first two letters and I become the opposite of the 5 letter word. What am I?
Gosh, Vella left you lot with a tough one, didn’t she? The answer is… Woman! If you take away the W from ‘Woman’ you’re left with oman, and if you take the W and the O away from ‘Woman’ you’re left with the opposite, a man! Did you get it? I sure didn’t. That was way too hard for me, so if you got the answer correct, well done! These riddles are so great for our brains, so keep coming back and working on our weekly riddles, even if you aren’t getting them correct, giving them a go is just as good if
you ask me.
Now, it wouldn’t be a Saturday without our ‘What would the grandkids say?’ segment, would it? Today, we are taking a look at the term ‘era’! This term follows its typical dictionary definition in that it is used to describe a period of time. But kids today don’t use it to remember the Renaissance. Instead, they accompany it with a word or phrase describing an activity or event in which they participated. For example, if you’ve been exercising for the past month, you can say, ‘I’m in my fitness era’.
Or if you’re trying out a plant-based diet, you can say, ‘I’m in my vegan era’. So next time your grandkids ask you what era you’re in, you can tell them you’re in your ‘retirement era’! 😉
Oh, and one more thing from me before we jump into today's stories! We have our first ever Bingo winner! Congratulations to @Max! Game 2 has just started, so check out SDC Bingo now. Today's numbers are G57, O63, and B12.
