SIS Duo - Activate. Move. Rehabilitate. No images? Click here
We are excited to announce that we now have the SIS Duo in clinic.
Advanced technology to support your rehabilitation. The BTL Super Inductive System (SIS) Duo is a modern, non-invasive treatment that uses electromagnetic stimulation to target specific muscles and nerves. At PhysioFunction, we use SIS Duo alongside physiotherapy to help with issues such as:
SIS Duo is not a replacement for physiotherapy or exercise. Instead, it is another tool that our physiotherapists can use as part of an individual rehabilitation programme.
How does SIS Duo work? SIS Duo uses a magnetic field to stimulate nerves and muscles beneath the skin. There are no needles and no electrodes attached to the skin. The stimulation can cause targeted muscles to contract. This can help a person to become more aware of, and work on, a particular muscle or movement. Depending on the individual, SIS Duo may be used before or alongside active rehabilitation, such as strengthening exercises, movement practice or functional activities. Your physiotherapist will decide whether SIS Duo is appropriate for you and will tailor the treatment to your individual needs and goals.
How can SIS Duo help with neurological conditions?
Neurological conditions can affect movement in many different ways. People may experience muscle weakness, stiffness, increased muscle tone, difficulty activating muscles, pain or reduced mobility. SIS Duo may be used alongside neurological physiotherapy to: Help with muscle stiffness and increased tone Encourage muscle activation Support strengthening and movement Help with pain Target specific areas Support active rehabilitation It's about helping you move It will be an additional tool to help you get the most from your physiotherapy, whether that means helping you activate a muscle, making movement easier or preparing you for active exercise. What does the research show? Research into electromagnetic stimulation suggests that it may help to reduce increased muscle tone and spasticity in some people. Studies have reported changes in muscle tone as well as improvements in movement and function. However, results can vary between individuals, and SIS Duo will not be suitable or effective for everyone. At PhysioFunction, we also carried out a small four-week in-house evaluation as part of our clinical evaluation of SIS Duo. We used the Modified Ashworth Scale to measure changes in muscle tone before and after treatment. The Modified Ashworth Scale (MAS) measures how stiff or “tight” a muscle feels when a physiotherapist moves a person’s limb. Our evaluation included people with:
These impressive results form part of our ongoing evaluation of how SIS Duo may be used within neurological rehabilitation. SIS Duo for musculoskeletal rehabilitation SIS Duo isn't just for neurological conditions. It can also be incorporated into musculoskeletal physiotherapy. For example, following an injury, surgery or a period of reduced activity, you may find that a particular muscle is weak or difficult to activate. SIS Duo can be used alongside your rehabilitation programme to:
Again, SIS Duo is one part of your rehabilitation, rather than a treatment that replaces exercise or physiotherapy.
Why SIS Duo at PhysioFunction? At PhysioFunction, we believe technology works best when it is combined with good physiotherapy and active rehabilitation. Our physiotherapists will assess your individual needs and decide whether SIS Duo could be useful as part of your treatment. Where appropriate, we can combine SIS Duo with:
The treatment is tailored to you, your goals and your rehabilitation programme. Prepare. Activate. Move. SIS Duo is another tool we can use to help you get more from your rehabilitation. For more details including pricing please speak to your therapist or give us a call on 01327 842321
