NEWS UPDATE

22 May 2026

Publishers note

As I sat down to prepare this week’s eNews, the first day of the Sanctuary Cove Boat Show had come to an end. Whilst visitors were making their way home, the traditional industry post-show festivities were getting underway, from PG’s Negroni Bar to the various corners of flowing music and drinks around the show.

Congratulations to Corey and his Sanctuary Cove team on a job well done. I have not been anywhere close to getting to the marina yet, nor have I had the chance to see all the off-water displays, but from what I did see, they deserve to be congratulated on the variety and diversity of exhibitors made available to the boating public.

The show was preceded by the very engaging ASMEX Conference and Marine Industry Awards. President Jeremy Spear delivered opening comments that marvellously encapsulated the industry. I have pestered him for his words, and we will bring those to you soon.

In wrapping up, our congratulations go to all the winners from the evening. It was not hard to see that the quality of the award entries highlighted what a good place our industry is in.

If you take anything away from this eNews, I would take note of three names: Western Australian State Finalist Mitchell Dick from Austal, Queensland State Finalist Laura Hillman from Riviera Australia, and New South Wales State Finalist Charlotte Anderson from Birdon Group. Whilst Laura came away as the Apprentice of the Year winner, it was clear that standing before the industry were three fabulous emerging leaders and genuine assets to the future of our sector.

Congratulations Mitch, Charlotte and Laura.

We do hope you enjoy this week’s news.
