Your feedback through surveys, conversations and complaints, helps us improve and make positive changes. While we’re proud of this result, we’re focused on keeping the conversation going, listening closely and continuing to do better.

Georgia’s journey with Smart Works

After completing her A-Levels, Georgia built career experience across events, marketing, and corporate services. While these roles gave her valuable experience, she began to feel they lacked purpose. Experiencing burnout and health challenges, Georgia stepped away from full‑time work to reflect on her future.

During this time, Georgia volunteered with Smart Works, an organisation who support unemployed women to prepare for interviews and return to work. She quickly became a trusted member of the Service Delivery Team, coordinating coaching and dressing appointments while offering practical and emotional support.

Recognising her commitment, the Skylight Employment Team helped Smart Works secure Trailblazer funding, enabling Georgia to undertake a six‑month paid placement. Since then, her role has continued to grow with responsibilities such as outreach, events, stock management, and leading a new Client Champion Project.

Georgia describes the experience as “transformational" in helping her rebuild confidence and making a difference in the community.

Keeping our communities clean and safe

Clean, safe and sustainable communities are something we can create together. Fly-tipping is a serious issue that can lead to significant penalties. Please use the correct waste and bulky item disposal services to avoid these consequences.

Leaving items in communal areas creates fire and safety risks. Keeping bin chutes clear and using them correctly helps ensure shared spaces remain safe for everyone.

If you're looking to give unwanted items such as furniture and white goods a new purpose, check out our Furniture Recycling Project where you can help someone make a house a home.

Did you know you could get extra support from your energy supplier?

Both your energy supplier (who provides your gas and electricity) and your network operator (who looks after the pipes and wires that deliver it) keep a Priority Services Register (PSR).

Joining the register means you can receive extra support if you need it – either on an ongoing basis or for a short time if your circumstances change.

What support is available?

If you’re on the Priority Services Register, you may be able to get:

  • Priority help in an emergency

  • Advance notice of planned power cuts, wherever possible

  • A password and identification scheme, so you can be confident anyone contacting or visiting you is genuine

  • The option to nominate someone you trust (such as a family member or carer) to receive bills or communications on your behalf

  • Help moving a prepayment meter if you can’t safely access it to top up

  • Regular meter readings

  • Bills and account information in accessible formats, such as large print or braille

  • Support reconnecting your gas supply, if needed

Who can join?

You can ask to be added to your supplier or network operator’s Priority Services Register if you:

  • Have reached State Pension age

  • Are pregnant or have young children

  • Find it difficult to speak or read English

You can also join if you live with a disability or long‑term health condition, including:

  • Mental health conditions

  • Sight, hearing or smell impairments

  • Conditions that mean you rely on medical equipment powered by electricity

Support is also available if your situation has changed recently, for example if you:

  • Are recovering from an injury or need support after a hospital stay

  • Have been bereaved or lost your job

Did you know that last year, 185 customers successfully moved homes via mutual exchange.

A mutual exchange is where you can swap your Stockport Homes or Housing Association property with another customer.

To register and apply for a mutual exchange, please visit  www.homechoicestockport.org.

Mutual Exchange & Property Adaptation

Under Schedule 3 of the Housing Act 1985, Mutual Exchange swap requests can be declined on specific grounds.

The legal ‘Ground for Refusal 7 (Adapted Properties)’ states: ‘A Mutual Exchange swap request can be declined if a property features disabled adaptations and the incoming household does not have an assessed need for these adaptations.’

Therefore, to make the best use of the limited housing stock, we reserve the right to decline Mutual Exchange swap requests where an adaptation need would not be met by the exchange, e.g.

  • If you have been assessed as needing an adapted property by our medical officer, you can only complete a Mutual Exchange with a property that meets your assessed need
  • If you have adaptations in your current property, you can only complete a Mutual Exchange with another customer who has been assessed by our medical officer as needing the adaptations

If you have any queries in relation to this policy, please contact us by telephone: 0161 217 6016 (Option 2) or email: mutualexchange@stockporthomes.org
