NEWS UPDATE13 September 2024 Publishers noteMy callout last week that it wasn’t the end of the boat show season created several supportive responses, including a reminder that I had omitted the much-popular SA Boat & Fishing Show in Adelaide, scheduled to kick off on the 25th of October. Spring is here, and despite the erratic weather in some parts of the country, the anticipation for summer is upon us. Hopefully, businesses are busy servicing clients' boats in preparation, avoiding that last-minute rush. That said, for our clients who are not so forward-thinking, maybe a gentle nudge via email or social media to book their boats in now wouldn’t be a bad idea. I joined the boating industry in the early 1990s. My first exposure to the industry came soon after starting my business, and if my memory serves me correctly, it was around 1993. I became more entrenched in 1998 when I was invited to join the BIA "for a few weeks" to help with their marketing and events. Those few weeks turned into many years, during which I was involved in 23 Sydney Boat Shows and numerous others around the country. Over the years, I’ve had the pleasure and honor of meeting, working with, and supporting many businesses. Our industry has had its fair share of colourful characters, but they were the exception to an industry filled with great people, many of whom I still call friends today. This week, I had the pleasure of catching up with one of those friends. Despite being retired, his passion and love for boating and the industry remain as strong as ever. It was a joy catching up with Steve. Here’s to more coffee catch-ups in the future. Maybe we should organise a reunion for all the old boys and gals to keep the memories and the love for the industry alive.
