2022 Hurricane Season Begins June 1
The Atlantic Hurricane Season begins Wednesday, June 1. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) predicted an above-average hurricane season for 2022, making it the seventh year in a row they’ve predicted such a season. Here are a few highlights:
4 to 21 named storms (winds of 39 mph or higher)
6 to 10 could become hurricanes (winds of 74 mph or higher),
3 to 6 could become major hurricanes (category 3, 4 or 5; with winds of 111 mph or higher).

Tragedy in Uvalde
HMSL joins the state of Texas and the entire country in mourning the loss of 19 children and two teachers in Uvalde. The Spiritual Care team remains available for any employee who needs help during this devastating time. Dr. Marc Boom offered a few words last week. If you feel compelled to donate money to help the families, you can find many fundraising efforts here. Parents struggling to talk to their children about this can also utilize this resource.
History of Memorial Day
Today, May 30, is Memorial Day, when the United States honors the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. It is celebrated every year on the last Monday of May. The day was known as “Decoration Day” until it became an official federal holiday in 1971. A national moment of remembrance happens at 3:00 p.m. local time across the country.
The Veterans Alliance ERG will be in the Main Atrium through Tuesday, May 31, with a table where you can honor these service members and learn more about military holidays.
