There are new-build hotels in Perth/Boorloo and Fremantle/Walyalup, plus tiny stays and redeveloped caravan parks in regional WA. Rottnest Island/Wadjemup continues to welcome exciting developments, and there’s more hospitality openings in Perth and the Margaret River Region, plus Aboriginal experiences across the State, and an array of land, island and cruising adventures. The Lodge Wadjemup set to open on Rottnest Island Stage One of The Lodge Wadjemup, the much-anticipated new accommodation offering on Perth’s idyllic Rottnest Island, is open for booking – with stays available from early 2025. The Lodge Wadjmeup will deliver a new level of hospitality for the island, and a welcome capacity boost for overnight visitors. Currently, 63 refurbished rooms are available to book, with a total of 109 rooms to be released in stages. This includes newly constructed rooms, as well as a pool, conference space and Gathering Ground – due to open by mid-2025. In addition to the accommodation offering, The Lodge Wadjemup project includes two hospitality venues – Mediterranean-inspired all day dining venue Sunsets Rottnest, and the Pelican kiosk. Perth’s NRL State of Origin 2025 date revealed Perth is once again set to host Game II of the annual National Rugby League (NRL) State of Origin series at the world-class Optus Stadium on Wednesday June 18, 2025. The State of Origin is a three-match series between two of Australia's biggest sporting rivals - the Queensland Maroons and New South Wales Blues - and touted as one of the biggest annual sporting contests in the country. Next year's event marks State of Origin's third time in Perth, with previous matches held in 2019 and 2022. Perth will also host a State of Origin match again in 2028. Tickets for Game II of the 2025 series in Perth are now on sale. Heyscape launches new premium cabin experience at Raintree Farm in DenmarkPerth based off-grid accommodation provider Heyscape has announced Denmark in WA’s Great Southern as the latest location for its premium cabin experience. The three new cabins are ideally located on Raintree - an oceanfront regenerative farm home to award-winning paddock to plate restaurant The Dam, a cannabis botanical distillery, marron and truffles. The location offers stunning views of William Bay National Park, home to some of Australia’s best beaches - Greens Pool and Elephant Rocks; and links to the Bibbulmun Track and Munda Biddi cycling track. The cabins offer premium amenities such as self-contained kitchens, outdoor baths and locally sourced products including The Dam’s truffle butter, honey and oil, and cocktail kits using vodka distilled on the property. Guests can also enjoy a range of unique experiences such as a ‘Marron Catch and Cook.’ AFL fans to head west as WA secures additional fixtures East coast footy fans will be encouraged to visit the west next year, with Australian Football League (AFL) team North Melbourne confirmed to hold two annual home game matches in WA for the next three years. The matches will be played at Bunbury's Hands Oval in WA’s South West and Perth's Optus Stadium on back-to-back weekends in June against the West Coast Eagles and Fremantle Dockers. North Melbourne fans will be able to take advantage of Jetstar's direct flight from Melbourne to Busselton to attend the Bunbury match, which will be played on Victoria's June long weekend, encouraging visitors to explore the dreamy wonders of the Margaret River Region and beyond. Ord Valley Muster returns in 2025 with stellar Australian line-up Top Australian artists Lime Cordiale, Thelma Plum and Mark Seymour & The Undertow are among the headline acts confirmed to perform at the 2025 Ord Valley Muster’s pinnacle event, the Kimberley Moon Experience. Lighting up the Kimberley from May 16 to 25, visitors can immerse themselves in a diverse program of events, including the Kimberley Fine Diamonds Dinner; free family event Party in the Park; new events including a Cliffside Dinner at Lake Argyle and a Bottomless Brunch at Emma Gorge; and yoga boats - the chance to stretch and relax on Lake Kununurra. Set against the backdrop of Kununurra/Goonoonoorrang, the Ord Valley Muster takes visitors on a cultural journey spanning tens of thousands of years of Aboriginal history, told through storytelling, art, and performance, alongside music, comedy, river cruises, unique dining experiences and family activities. Tours, Attractions & AccommodationRendezvous Hotel Perth Scarborough to get a refurb Perth’s / Boorloo first and currently only beachside high-rise hotel, the Rendezvous Perth Scarborough will undergo a multi-million-dollar refurbishment. Taking place over two-years, it will see the 330 hotel rooms refreshed, upgrades to the hotel’s front entrance and conference space, with additional works planned for the hotel’s swimming pool and public areas. Inspired by the hotel’s stunning and uninterrupted views of the Indian Ocean, the refresh will have a beach-inspired theme, with new furniture, soft furnishings and artwork throughout. Last month, the hotel also welcomed spa offering, Solace Day Spa – with plans to open more treatment rooms, ice baths and sauna area for the peak summer season. Oh Hey WA new Perth walking tours Perth-based walking tour company Oh Hey WA has launched three new tours in Perth’s CBD and Northbridge, designed to provide an immersive experience, blending historical insights with vibrant storytelling led by passionate local guides. The Perth City Highlights Tour offers a quick, comprehensive introduction to the city in just 90 minutes, visiting iconic landmarks and discovering the unique history and culture. For art enthusiasts, there’s a new Perth Art, Arcades and Lanways Tour - a 90-minute tour that dives into the city’s thriving art scene, exploring vibrant laneways, hidden arcades and stunning murals. In Northbridge, the Northbridge History, Culture and Crime Tour uncovers the intriguing stories and multicultural history that has shaped the area. Luxury cruising on the Swan River with Perth Swan River Cruises Perth Swan River Cruises has started operating luxury dining and sightseeing experiences on the city’s iconic Swan River / Derbal Yerrigan, onboard a luxurious 25-metre tri-level catamaran. Accommodating up to 240 guests, the cruises will operate from November to April, departing from Barrack Street Jetty at Perth’s Elizabeth Quay. The cruises available include a Sunset Dinner Cruise, where guests can enjoy a four-course a la carte menu on a three-hour cruise showcasing the city skyline, complemented by live commentary and entertainment. There’s also a 2.5-hour cruise with a two-course a la carte lunch; plus Christmas Cruise packages with four-hour lunch, sunset or beach and swim cruises available. Captain Cook Cruises new experiences Captain Cook Cruises has introduced two tour products to its offering of cruises and charters that connect Perth to the Swan Valley wine region and Fremantle/Walyalup via the Swan River. On a new Swan Valley Wine Cruise, guests can enjoy a WA wine tasting as they cruise along the river from Perth to the Swan Valley, arriving at Mandoon Estate for a wine and macaron pairing and free time to explore the grounds. Captain Cook Cruises has also expanded its scenic offerings with packages that include access to the Fremantle Maritime Museum, high tea boxes, cheese boards, and additional activities for a full-day experience. Packages, such as the Maritime Explorer, Afternoon in Port, and Perth & Port, provide a comprehensive exploration of the Swan River and Perth's rich maritime history. Cruise on the Willie Pearl Lugger at Rottnest Island Set sail on a new cruise along the dreamy coastline of Perth’s Rottnest Island aboard one of Australia’s last operating pearl luggers. Willie Pearl Lugger Cruises will be sailing from Broome to offer Rottnest Island Day Sails from now until March 2025. Guests will discover what it was like to sail a traditional pearl lugger that operated along the Kimberley coast from the late 1800s to the early 1970s, sailing through the pristine turquoise waters of Rottnest Island. After the sail, the boat will anchor in one of the island's idyllic bays for a swim and light lunch. Tours depart Thursday to Monday, with private charters also available accommodating up to 30 guests. Yoga and Pilates on Rottnest Island Connect with yourself and nature in a new beachside wellness experience on Perth’s Rottnest Island. Evolve in You Yoga is offering morning or evening yoga and pilates classes at either Thomson Bay or The Basin, with both locations overlooking the ocean. Castle Rock Estate launches new wine experiences Castle Rock Estate, located in the Porongurup region of WA’s Great Southern, has recently launched three new wine experiences to complement its existing cellar door offering. The experiences are designed to offer visitors a deeper understanding of the Porongurup wine region. The Wine Flights are a bookable seated tasting at the cellar door, exploring either the riesling or pinot noir range. There’s also a 60-minute ‘behind-the-scenes' Guided Vineyard and Winery Tour, opening the winery and vineyard to visitors for the first time. The third experience is a Private Wine Flight (riesling or pinot noir) in the winery. Set within the winery barrel cellar, guests can enjoy a more in-depth and intimate wine tasting experience. After the tours, guests can relax on the cellar door verandah or newly established terrace overlooking the grounds, with the option to add a cheese grazing box and wine. Get Off the Beaten Track in Denmark One of WA’s premium hiking experiences and adventure tour companies Off the Beaten Track has launched a Denmark Luxe Adventure Escape in WA’s Great Southern. The four-day, three-night itinerary offers a blend of adventure, gourmet indulgence and relaxation – with accommodation at the recently launched Heyscape Tiny Cabins in Denmark. The Binba Mayi coastal foraging experience is a half-day tour exploring Broome’s surrounding mudflats, mangroves and creeks. An Aboriginal guide will show guests traditional foraging techniques and talk to the local culture. The tour finishes with a bush barbecue to cook up the catch of the day. Food & WineThe Basin at Rottnest welcomes HAZVA A contemporary Mediterranean dining experience has popped up on the shores of one of Rottnest Island’s / Wadjemup most popular beaches, The Basin. HAZVA is an outdoor dining experience offering stunning Indian Ocean views alongside a menu that blends the flavours of the Aegean Sea with local WA produce. The casual, family-friendly dining experience serves up tapas-style dishes designed for sharing – with takeaway options also available for true beachside dining. Lola Underground opens at State Buildings Lola Underground has opened its doors in the basement of the historic State Buildings precinct in Perth’s CBD. A new venture from the team behind Dunsborough’s Lady Lola in the Margaret River Region, the late-night venue offers a cosy yet energetic atmosphere to unwind and indulge in after-dark activities. Guests can enjoy European-inspired bites and a drinks menu featuring a selection of Spanish, French and WA wines alongside sophisticated, stirred cocktails made with top-shelf spirits. Ginza Nana Alley serving up authentic Japanese experience Australia’s first Yokocho-style dining experience has opened its doors down a Perth / Boorloo CBD laneway. Ginza Nana Alley is a 70-person space with an authentic street-style atmosphere. The five venues within the space include Ginza Midai which specialises in oden; Yakitori Washokudo, a fire grill dedicated to skewers; Onomichi Ramen Mitsuya offers Onomichi-style ramen; Tonkatsu Kubota is Japanese comfort food with a western twist; and Monkey and Bird is a retro-inspired Japanese style cafe and bar. An array of Japanese vending machines can also be found in the venue, providing visitors with an authentic street experience. FOUND. Brewery has a new home in Subiaco A new brewery has found its home in the vibrant inner-city suburb of Subiaco. FOUND. Subiaco opened its doors on November 29 and is the flagship venue for the brewery – with an existing venue in the outer-city suburb of Byford. The refurbished 350-person venue includes an inside area and outside beer garden, and an on-site brewery pouring a range of different brews on tap. The venue’s food menu focuses on elevated pub fare showcasing the best of WA produce. Discover abalone production on a new rare foods tour Visitors to Augusta in the Margaret River Region can get an insight into the growing and harvesting of one of the world’s rarest foods – wild greenlip abalone. Rare Foods Australia is the only wild enhanced fishery in the world using certified sustainable practices to produce greenlip abalone. On the new Rare Foods Tour visitors take a behind-the-scenes look at the facility to discover the history and world-class innovation in growing and harvesting abalone. During the tour, guests will view the live tanks, processing facility and divers’ office - where a team of expert divers work to ensure successful and high-quality harvests. Guests will then delve into Rare Food Australia’s innovation ‒ ocean-cellared wine. At 20-metres deep and with the swell and tides, the ocean can mature wine perfectly. The tour concludes at the Ocean Pantry café to sample freshly cooked abalone and the ocean-cellared wine. Lifestyle & CultureDates announced for Aboriginal cultural festival Jamba Nyinayi Jamba Nyinayi (rest awhile) will captivate audiences again when it returns for a third consecutive year in 2025. Held at Cardabia / Gunjayindiya Station near Coral Bay in the World Heritage-listed Ningaloo/Nyinggulu Region, the festival will take place from April 18 to 20. Baiyungu Aboriginal Corporation invite people of all cultures, communities and nationalities to join them for a soulful celebration of connection, culture and community. Camping packages for three, four and five nights will be available, which will include festival entry plus a range of inclusions and options. All campers and festival attendees will enjoy the hugely popular campfire sessions, main stage dance and music performances, cultural workshops, food and arts markets and station amenities. WA Museum launches exhibition of profound cultural significance 'Spinifex People: Art and stories from Pila Nguru' exhibition has opened at Perth’s /Boorloo WA Museum Boola Bardip. The exhibition is a modern story with ancient origins, celebrating the creativity and resilience of a unique Aboriginal community through their art, images and voices. Featuring a stunning array of artworks, objects, digital projections and film, it will transport visitors into the world of the Spinifex People and their enduring connection to Country. For thousands of years, they lived in a land that few outsiders ever saw. Then during the mid-1950s, British atomic bomb testing around the fringes of Spinifex Country led to the removal of the people from their homelands. Visitors can view poignant pieces of artwork that represent their displacement during the testing, and the pivotal works that contributed to the community's successful Native Title Determination in 2000. The exhibition is running until May 4, 2025. Pearls and plates in the Kimberley and Abrolhos Islands Two WA pearling families will come together in 2025 to host Pearls and Plates - an exclusive series of culinary dining and cultural events held at two stunning pearl farm locations in WA. The Liddons from the Abrolhos Islands off the coast of Geraldton in the Coral Coast and the Browns of Cygnet Bay near Broome / Rubibi in the Kimberley will share their coastal homelands, rich in Australian pearling history, to host an incredible long table dining experience. Pearls and Plates is now in its fifth year at Post Office Island in the Abrolhos, taking place from April 19 to 21 with a long-table lunch showcasing local seafood. It will premiere at a secluded site at Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm from May 30 to June 1 with an evening dining experience under with local pearl meat and Kimberley produce on the menu. EventsUnited Cup December 27 to January 1 | RAC Arena | Perth The world's best tennis players will unite in Perth for a third consecutive summer to compete at the 2025 United Cup. The official draw revealed Perth’s RAC Arena will host Team USA, led by men's world number six Taylor Fritz and women's world number three Coco Gauff. Crowd favourite and men's world number 11 Stefanos Tsitsipas will also be heading to Perth, representing Team Greece. Perth will also host top-ranked players from China, Canada, Germany, Spain, Kazakhstan and Brazil over six action-packed days. A multicultural festival will add vibrancy to the Perth event, taking place at The Plaza at RAC Arena with performances, food and DJs. Matches will start Friday, December 27, with two quarterfinal matches on New Year's Day. AusCycling National Road Cycling Championships January 8 to 12 | Kings Park | Perth Australia’s top cyclists and para-cyclists will be heading West in 2025 to compete for the coveted green-and-gold national championship jersey at the 2025 AusCycling Road National Championships. Riders will take on three challenging new courses that will take them through the picturesque Kings Park and Botanic Garden, one of the world’s largest inner-city parks. The iconic location will form the centerpiece for AusCycling’s most prestigious cycling race. FRINGE WORLD Perth January 17 to February 16 | Perth Perth’s annual FRINGE World Festival will once again light up the city with culture and colour when it returns in 2025. Featuring a packed program of more than 200 events covering circus, comedy, cabaret, theatre, dance and children's entertainment from local, national and international artists, it is set to surprise and delight audiences of all ages. The ever-popular Pleasure Garden will return with some of the hottest shows in the festival, with other venues and world-renowned acts soon to be announced. Australian Open Water Championships and Ocean Swim Festival January 23 to 26 | Busselton | WA’s South West The Australian Open Water Championships and Ocean Swim Festival will return to the South West city of Busselton / Undalup for a third consecutive year in 2025. Taking place at the iconic Busselton Jetty, the elite swimming event will see some of the country’s best open water swimmers face off, with the event providing athletes with qualifying opportunities for the respective Masters, Open and Junior International level events held later in 2025. The different courses, including the 500m, 1.25kilometre, 2.5km, and 10km Community Swims and the 5km, 7.5km, 10km, and a 4 x 1.25km relay contested for the Open Water Championships, will take place around the Busselton Jetty, allowing spectators to line the iconic structure to watch the races. HSBC SVNS Perth January 24 to 26 | HBF Park | Perth For the second consecutive year Perth will host the Australian leg of the HSBC SVNS in 2025, with the Australian-exclusive global rugby event taking place at Perth's rectangular stadium, HBF Park. HSBC SVNS attracts the world's top rugby nations who will play an alternative rugby union format. Over three days, seven players from 12 men’s and 12 women’s national teams compete in seven-minute halves in a tournament format with round robin, knockout matches and a grand final o. A fan festival will surround the event and provide a carnival-like hub for visitors and locals to enjoy before, during and after the matches. Perth Festival February 7 to March 2 | Perth Australia’s longest running cultural festival invites audiences to be challenged by truth-tellers and play with mischief-makers when it returns to Perth next year. The 2025 program includes 104 events showcasing art in all its forms from WA and across the globe, including five world premieres and six Australian premieres or exclusives. Highlights includes the legendary queen of cool PJ Harvey and Irish sensations Fontaines D.C. kicking off their respective national tours. The festival will open with Karla Bidi (meaning ‘campfire track’ in Noongar language) - a large-scale light installation that illuminates sites of cultural significance along the Swan River / Derbal Yerrigan. Another highlight is the transformation of the dormant East Perth Power Station into an exciting new festival site. The historic venue will become a creative hub featuring First Nations visual art and contemporary world music. Busselton Jetty Swim February 8 to 9 | Busselton | WA’s South West The Busselton Jetty Swim is a premier sporting event on the WA calendar. Held over two-days, it features a 3.6 kilometre open water swim around the iconic Busselton Jetty, the longest timber-piled jetty in the Southern Hemisphere. Competitors can swim solo, or in a two or four person relay. There’s also a one mile swim to shore, starting at the end of the jetty, and a 500 metre swim starting at the eastern side of the jetty. The event also includes entertainment and activities, plus a family-friendly concert. Boyup Brook Country Music Muster February 14 to 16 | Boyup Brook | WA’s South West The Boyup Brook Country Music Festival, is one of WA’s most popular music and camping festivals, bringing together the best of Australia’s country musicians. The family-friendly event is a celebration of country music in a relaxed and natural bushland setting. The event combines a country music awards ceremony; free street carnival complete with buskers; stalls and food stands; a ute and truck muster parade; and one of Australia’s largest Bush Poets Breakfast. Mandurah Crab Fest March 15 to 16 | Mandurah | Parth Mandurah Crab Fest, one of WA's biggest free regional events is set to make a triumphant return in 2024 along the waterfront spaces of Mandurah. This acclaimed celebration promises an abundance of culinary delights, and lively activities. Highlights include the music stage, family-friendly activities, live cooking demonstrations, thrilling action sports, fireworks, and an array of delectable options from diverse pop-up food stalls to cater to every palate. |
