Giving Tuesday Is Tomorrow!

It’s been a challenging year for nonprofits, and PBPA has worked hard to keep up with the rapidly evolving changes impacting nonprofits in Georgia. Through free education resources, direct legal services, and more, we are helping our nonprofit community meet the moment.

If PBPA’s support has been valuable to your organization, and you are able, we hope you’ll consider making a Giving Tuesday contribution. A gift of any amount helps ensure we can continue to educate and support nonprofits on legal issues, so you all can stay focused on the communities you serve.

Collaborating with other nonprofits can be a powerful way to stretch limited resources and amplify impact. By pooling expertise, staff time or funding, partnerships can help organizations do more with less. But successful collaboration doesn't happen by accident. It requires clear expectations and defined roles from the start. In this episode of the PBPA Podcast, attorney Gail Gunnells joins us to discuss how nonprofits can maximize the benefits of collaboration while minimizing the legal risks.

Nonprofit organizations expanding their operations beyond their state of incorporation may be subject to the new state’s business registration requirements. Nonprofit leaders should understand this requirement because there are penalties if the business entity doesn’t comply. The general rule is that “foreign” nonprofits (nonprofits incorporated in one state that seek to do business in another state) are required to register with the Secretary of State (or the applicable office) of each state in which they will be “transacting business.” If you’ve formed a nonprofit in another state and intend to do business in Georgia, then this article is for you.

As a client of Pro Bono Partnership of Atlanta, you know we provide free legal assistance to community-based nonprofits that serve low-income or disadvantaged individuals. We match eligible organizations with volunteer attorneys from the leading corporations and law firms in Atlanta who can assist nonprofits with business law matters. We want to know what’s going on with you. Let us know if you are facing a legal problem or if you have a new project for us. Please don’t contact the volunteer from your last project – please contact your PBPA attorney. We love our volunteers, but all legal requests need to go through PBPA.

Pro Bono Partnership of Atlanta always welcomes new legal matters from our clients.
If you have a legal matter that you need assistance with, please contact your PBPA attorney.
Please feel free to forward this email to other nonprofits who may be interested in our services.
