If you're wondering how to fill in your newfound time, fittingly, there's an exciting calendar of events coming up on your waterfront to enjoy. Read on to find out what's in store for this October. Ngā mihi The Your Waterfront Team Planning is underway for the future of Wynyard PointThe next stage in Wynyard Quarter’s transformation will take place in the area north of Silo Park on Wynyard Point, and guiding this work is the plan named Te Ara Tukutuku. Gifted by mana whenua, Te Ara Tukutuku is a name used for waka (canoe) ramps. It is a metaphor for the binding of the land and the sea, between the domains of Tangaroa and Papatūānuku. Work is progressing on Te Ara Tukutuku, with a design collective now announced who will be responsible for the design of the public realm. Toi Waihanga was awarded the contract as a result of an expression of interest process that attracted nine submissions. Of those nine, five were shortlisted to the request for proposal stage, and presented to a selection panel of Eke Panuku and mana whenua representatives. The successful submitter Toi Waihanga is comprised of LandLAB, Warren and Mahoney, Mott McDonald (supported by DONE), Stellar Projects, BECA, Fresh Concept, and New York based landscape architecture firm SCAPE. Westhaven Marina wins boatloads at marina awardsIt was a clean sweep for Westhaven Marina at the New Zealand Marina Operators Association (NZMOA) awards. Entered in three award categories, on the night Westhaven Marina came away as the winner of each of them. The awards were Marina of the Year, Best Environmental Performer, and winner of the Outstanding Initiative category for the launch of its digital parking management system. The marina also received NZMOA Clean Marina recertification, which recognises the team’s efforts to minimise the impact the marina has on the environment. Held every two years, the last NZMOA award event was hosted in Auckland with Westhaven Marina being named the runner-up in the Marina of the Year category. Since then, the team at Westhaven Marina has worked hard to continuously raise their performance in every aspect of marina operations and management, and it is a proud moment that the marina has been recognised this year as the winner of the supreme award. School holiday fun at the NZ Maritime Museum 10:30 am - 1:00 pm, weekdays from 3 - 14 October, New Zealand Maritime Museum During these school holidays, the NZ Maritime Museum has your entertainment covered. They have a bunch of activities listed on their website that you can do at home, or you can sign up to Yarns and Darns which is an in-person session. At Yarns and Darns you'll delve into a giant, magical book that tells stories of taniwha, timber, shipwrecks, a sharp-tooth shark - and even a volcano. Then afterward, use your imagination to create your own beautiful fabric book and explore the museum on a self-guided tour. $5 per child, and can be booked below. Art in the City 7 - 16 October, Auckland CBD wide Art in the City is popping up in the heart of the city this October as a celebration of Auckland’s vibrant art scene. There are over 100 installations, exhibitions, guided walks, murals, performances, talks, markets and workshops to enjoy over the 10 days, so make sure you check out the programme and head along. Auckland Heritage Festival 2022 1 - 16 October 2022, Auckland wide Auckland Heritage Festival 2022 is bringing more than 160 enlightening and intriguing events to Tāmaki Makaurau, with many of them free or low cost, and some located on your waterfront. Take part in the festival and learn about Auckland's heritage – from natural landscape and historic architecture, through to incredible treasures and stories of trailblazing people; all of which have helped make Tāmaki Makaurau the city it is today. Workshops on the Waterfront The Open Fort Come join The Open Fort team for free workshops consisting of creative play and games for all ages. Chalk art, construction play, freeform games, and more surprises are on offer throughout the school holidays. Roll up, roll up to the circus fun zone.
