Dear ,

We’re in the last two weeks of 2023 and what a year it has been! The RSA’s transformation continues, and we are so proud of the incredibly positive steps we have made this year. One of these exciting developments is the appointment of new RSA Director, Associate Professor Rachael Walker. Rachael is well known to the RSA for her incredible work in health equity (among many other wonderful things) and we are so pleased to have her input on the strategic direction of the organisation.

The final issue of Renal Society of Australasia Journal will be out soon. We would like to thank the tireless work from the editors, associate editors, EAB, reviewers and authors. In particular, we would like to thank Editor-in-Chief, Paul Bennett for leading the process in 2023 and former Editor-in-Chief, Kathy Hill. We really appreciate all your time and efforts on the RSAJ.

Our members took part in on-the-ground events in Wellington, Perth, Sydney, Adelaide, Surfers Paradise, Traralgon, and the Sunshine Coast. It has been amazing to connect with our RSA members in person again! We also held 30 online special interest group meetings, webinars and online workshops, and it has been great to see so many of our members in their workplaces.

We launched the RSA Workforce Taskforce, which has 40+ RSA members from across Australia and New Zealand creating resources and tools relating to leadership, education, credentialing and training, staff:patient ratios and models of care. The goal of these groups is to create a tangible impact on current and future conditions across our region, and we invite any interested members to join us in these endeavours as we continue to inspire and enable as we move into 2024.

As a brand-new initiative, RSA Group memberships have been trialed in 2023 - and are now live on the RSA website. If your hospital is interested in signing up a whole team of people (minimum of 9) then we invite you to consider group membership. Click here for more information.

Lastly, we have a fresh new RSA homepage online. Take a look and let us know what you think!

2024 is already shaping up to be our strongest year as a professional society - keep an eye out for: -

  • The launch of our new, interactive RSA community platform, RSA Thrive.
  • The annual RSA Conference 2024 in Brisbane - the call for abstracts is available online and you can register now.
  • The RSA Awards 2024 nominations will be opening soon! We had the most incredible nominations in 2023 and we can’t wait to hear about the amazing work our members have been doing during the year.

We hope that each of our members is looking forward to some relaxing, restorative time with whānau, family, friends and loved ones. We would like to send our collective appreciation and warmest good wishes to those members who will keep working to ensure that our patients and our communities stay safe and cared for during this period.

The RSA Office will close at 12pm ADST on Friday, 22 December and reopen on Monday, 8 January 2024.

For now, our very best wishes to the entire RSA community wherever you may be for a peaceful Christmas and a Happy New Year...

Jon Hosking, President - on behalf of the RSA Board
Jill, Lucy, Josie and Katie, the RSA Team
