After careful consideration and reflection, I have decided to embark on a new journey, accepting a leadership position in Western Australia’s tourism and hospitality sector. Over the past two and a half years, it has been an incredible privilege to serve in the role of Managing Director at Tourism WA. Together, we have achieved remarkable milestones in fortifying the Western Australian visitor economy. One of the proudest achievements has been the significant increase in visitor spend, reaching a record-breaking $17.7 billion – a phenomenal 31 per cent ahead of pre-COVID levels in 2019. Among our many accomplishments, some notable highlights include:
These achievements would not have been possible without the steadfast support of tourism and hospitality businesses across the state, along with our partners and all those who contribute to tourism in various capacities. Throughout my tenure, I have had the pleasure of interacting with numerous operators across Western Australia. Witnessing their dedication and passion firsthand fills me with optimism for the industry’s ongoing growth and success on the global stage. I am pleased to share that Steph Underwood will be stepping into the role of Acting Managing Director while the agency initiates the recruitment process for a permanent Managing Director. Your support to Steph during this transitioning period is greatly appreciated. In closing, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to each of you for your unwavering dedication and commitment to the growth of Western Australia’s exceptional tourism industry. Warm regards, Carolyn Turnbull |
