What's happening on your waterfront this month Kia ora While we've been enjoying sunnier days, please respect the rāhui placed across the Waitematā by Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei that remains in place. Please do not partake in recreational activities in or on the water so the mauri, or life force, of the Waitematā, can recover. There is plenty to do off the water around the neighbourhood this month, including the much anticipated return of the Wynyard Quarter Neighbors' Forum. Ngā mihi The Your Waterfront Team Watercare Wastewater UpdateWatercare announced last week they had discovered a significant blockage in the Ōrākei Main Sewer and are working to clear debris and repair the pipeline. They are working on a bypass currently. Due to the risk of overflows elsewhere in the network while this work is underway it is unsafe to swim or fish in the Waitematā Harbour. Black water quality pins have been placed along the waterfront on the Safeswim website and Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei have put a rāhui in place. Watercare have indicated this will last another week at least while a bypass is put in place. Check Watercare's website for up to date information. Super Yacht AccreditationSilo and Viaduct marinas have become the first superyacht marinas in New Zealand to be accredited with Gold Anchor and Superyacht Ready status! Superyacht Ready is an accreditation available to marinas that have the capacity and capabilities required to provide safe and adequate berthage for superyachts. The Superyacht Ready criteria is based around the suitability of the marina’s infrastructure to accommodate superyachts, accessibility for superyachts, security measures and service availability. Wynyard Crossing Bridge closureNext week the Wynyard Crossing Bridge will be closed to pedestrians between 8:30PM-9:00PM from Monday, 9 October until Friday, 13 October. During this time, the Bridge will remain in the upright position. This scheduled closure takes into consideration peak pedestrian traffic to ensure minimal impact on the community. Please prepare your journey in advance to cross prior to the closure or take the alternate route around the Viaduct. Thank you for your understanding and we apologise for any inconvenience. This breakfast event is a chance to meet your neighbors and hear more about the latest waterfront updates. This event has a focus on Te Ara Tukutuku Plan. You’ll hear about Te Ara Tukutuku from members of Toi Waihanga, the design consortium appointed to undertake this important mahi (work), including Kate Orff, founder of New York-based SCAPE. Auckland MarathonSunday, 29 October Over 15,000 people will run through Westhaven and Wynyard Quarter on their way to the Auckland Marathon finish line at Victoria Park. If you're not taking part come down and cheer on the runners as they hit the home straight! As usual roads along the route will be closed to general traffic until around 2pm, you can see the full details on the Run the City website. Waterfront Christmas marketAlongside Park Hyatt, we’ve been exploring running a Christmas market on the waterfront over the first weekend of December. We’d like to hear from local waterfront businesses to gauge interest in taking part, as well as ideas of how it might work. Eke Panuku is keen to support this initiative through placemaking activity and promotion. Kiwi Art TrailKiwi are returning to the waterfront! As part of Art Week colorful kiwi sculptures will brighten up the waterfront. Starting at Te Komititanga outside the Britomart Transport Centre, the trail will guide guests along the waterfront toward Silo Park. See the map and find all the details here! And something for the adults The Conservatory's new food and cocktail menuThe Conservatory is launching a brand new cocktail and food menu on 11 October. Owner Tricky Hartley says they've been working with a highly-respected mixologist to refresh the cocktail offering and he is sure customers will appreciate the new additions and expertise. One thing that hasn't changed is locals' love for the establishment, a sure favourite on the water's edge. North Wharf OktoberfestSaturday 21 October Good George are holding a celebration of the German Oktoberfest with their own North Wharf Octoberfest, promising live music, steins of beer and buffet food.
