Before the summit, I felt isolated and hesitant to open up about the hardships of having cancer. Now, I feel a sense of freedom and am less afraid to advocate for myself and share more about my treatment and life as someone diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer." Your People, Your Place HOPE Summit is free to attend—and we offer programs to help with your travel costs. From fundraising through the Survivor Challenge to travel grants, we’ll help make it happen for you and maybe even a loved one, too. 💙 Register for HOPE Summit today. Your community is waiting. 20 Years of Improving Lung Cancer Outcomes Through ResearchThe research community is celebrating 20 years of progress through research in treating lung cancer. 2024 marks the 20th anniversary of the discovery of EGFR’s role in lung cancer. This finding unleashed a new era of precision medicine—first with targeted therapies, followed a few years later by immunotherapy. Both of these approaches have transformed the way we think about and treat lung cancer and are helping to improve and extend patients’ lives. Indeed, we’ve come a long way in 20 years. Check out this video featuring the ILCSC24 keynote address by Solange Peters, MD, PhD, as she takes us on a journey through the evolution of lung cancer treatment over the past 20 years. Don’t miss:

Boosting Lung Cancer Screening and Early DetectionA game-changer for an underserved population As a pulmonologist at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle, Matty Triplette, MD, PhD, knows the importance of lung cancer screening, especially for those with heavy tobacco exposure. Despite the well-documented benefits of early detection, only 5% of eligible high-risk individuals in the US get their annual screenings, because of such factors as lack of awareness, limited facilities, and stigma. One group that's often overlooked in promoting lung cancer screening is the LGBTQIA2S+ community. Dr. Triplette, with support from the Health Equity for Communities Research Award from LUNGevity, is working to understand and address the unique needs of this diverse community. His goal is to improve access to and participation in lung cancer screening programs, ultimately saving more lives. LUNGevity Selected by the NFL for "My Cause, My Cleats" ProgramNominated by New England Patriots staff member Mike Perriello in honor of his mother The National Football League’s New England Patriots team selected LUNGevity as one of the organizations honored during their game on December 1 through the league’s My Cause, My Cleats campaign, which celebrates the positive impact team members have made in communities across America and provides players, coaches, and staff with an opportunity to highlight the causes they are passionate about. The team designed and created custom footwear representing each organization. The shoes were worn during the game and then auctioned off, with proceeds going back to each respective foundation. Patriots staff member Mike Perriello, whose mother was diagnosed with lung cancer last year, is making a donation to LUNGevity in lieu of the auction on his mother’s behalf. You can read more about the campaign and see the custom designs here: My Cause, My Cleats: Your Patriots Chosen Charities. Upcoming Webinar: How You Can Help Design Clinical TrialsMonday, December 16, at 12 pm ET LUNGevity is partnering with the Rising Tide Foundation for Clinical Cancer Research to host a webinar on how people living with cancer can help design clinical trials. When people get involved in research early, it means that the research is more likely to address their needs. This webinar shares real-world examples of how this works and explains how you can get involved in helping design clinical trials. Follow us on Facebook to be reminded next Monday at 12 pm ET. On November 19, LUNGevity partnered with the American Lung Association, GO2 for Lung Cancer, Moffitt Cancer Center, and Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center to host a virtual congressional briefing titled “The Latest on Lung Cancer: Where We Are & What Congress Can Do.” The briefing, which drew significant attendance from congressional staff and partners, featured remarks from Reps. Kathy Castor (D-FL), Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL), and Vern Buchanan (D-FL). Leaders from participating organizations presented information on the current state of lung cancer with a particular emphasis on the value of early detection. You can watch the briefing here.
