We wanted to send you a different kind of ‘newsletter’ today. For as long as I (Maddie) can remember, I have always written Christmas cards to my nearest and dearest. I write them by hand because I think writing by hand has become a lost art and I’ve always found that I am better able to express myself when I write by hand rather than typing (a bit ironic considering what I do for a living 😉). When I first sat down and really thought about what I wanted to put in our Christmas day newsletter I thought how great it would be if I could handwrite you all Christmas cards because this community has truly become a part of my nearest and dearest, however, unfortunately, I think that would take me a whole year seeing there are 200,000 of you. So instead, I figured I would write you all a virtual Christmas card (it’s the next best thing, right?)

I think the most important thing for me to say today is thank you. Thank you for the incredible support you have offered myself, Jon and the rest of the team since we started this club back in 2021. Whether you’ve been a member from the beginning, or you joined yesterday, you have joined a community that I can say from the bottom of my heart is like an online family. I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting you in real life, but I have the privilege of knowing so much about so many of you who have been kind enough to share your stories with me. You are all such generous people, whether you’re sharing your story, a recipe, a picture, a joke or a riddle and I feel truly blessed to be a part of this fast-growing family.

When Jon and I started the Seniors Discount Club we simply thought it would be a good website to have so Australians over the age of sixty could take advantage of some deals and discounts that aren’t well-known. We had no idea the website would ‘blow up’ and that within the space of 18 months we’d have 200,000 members and would be sending 12 newsletters a week! And all of this is because of your support.

Whether you’re celebrating today with family, friends, or alone, know that you’re part of a much bigger family here at the Seniors Discount Club. You are never alone and will always have this space as a safe space to connect with others and have a little bit of fun!

Thank you for making this community what it is. I feel blessed to be a part of it.

I hope you have a very merry Christmas and regardless of what you have planned, be sure to stop, take a deep breath, and enjoy a well-made cuppa. You deserve it.
