NEWS UPDATE22 August 2025 Publishers noteThis has been a very busy week for Marine Business News. This edition is by far the largest newsletter we have published, and rather than eliminating news that may be of interest, we have worked to create a better structure so you can more easily find what interests you. The news this week was headlined by a number of stories, beginning with two reports from the BIA. The first related to last weekend’s Sydney Boat Show at the Showgrounds at Sydney Olympic Park. The second was the release of the “National Recreational Boating Statement,” a 26-page report providing an extensive and comprehensive overview of recreational boating. It is a document that takes a couple of reads to digest fully. Also in the news, there has been a leadership change at Marine Rescue NSW, as Commissioner Barrell accepts a national appointment. Commissioner Barrell has featured regularly in Marine Business News, including his recent recognition in the 2025 King’s Birthday Honours List, where he received the prestigious Emergency Services Medal (ESM) for his outstanding service and commitment to maritime safety and rescue. Last month we also published our “In conversation with Marine Rescue NSW Commissioner Alex Barrell ESM,” where he shared insights into his background and current priorities. We congratulate Commissioner Barrell on a well-deserved appointment. We do hope you enjoy this week’s news.
