This is our first eNews for 2023, and with it comes a broad range of news and stories. Michelle has surpassed 150 days on the water, is south of the equator, and now has sharks for company. This time luckily they are in the water and not in her boat. After almost walking away from sailing, Sydney to Hobart overall handicap-winning skipper Sam Haynes says he wants to go back-to-back after clinching a “redemption” victory. Haynes and the crew of Celestial were last week presented with the Tattersall Cup, a year after they were stripped of top spot because of a 40-minute time penalty. Surge in rescues over December prompts warning from Marine Rescue NSWDuring October and November there were 707 rescues performed across the State, just over 11 per day. In December the number of rescues surged to 602 with nearly 20 rescues performed each day, over half of which were for boats with flat batteries, engine failure or who had run out of fuel.
