From 1943 to 1945, Qantas operated flights from Australia to Sri Lanka that lasted between 28 to 33 hours, the longest non-stop air route of any airline at the time. The flights were so long that passengers witnessed two sunrises and were awarded the certificate of ‘The Secret Order of the Double Sunrise’.
