Monday Edition
Hello and happy Monday, dearest members! How are you all doing on this mighty fine morning? I (Jarred) sure hope you’ve all gotten off to a great start, whether that’s going out for a walk, watering your garden, playing with your pets, or reading this newsletter. In keeping with the SDC tradition, I present to you (drum roll)... This week’s first riddle:
Two fathers and two sons went fishing one day. They were there the whole day and only caught three fish. One father said, that is enough for all of us, we will have one each. How can this be possible?
Quite the brain teaser, right? Mine felt like it went for a marathon by the time I had an inkling of the answer! Don’t forget to post your answers on this thread to get your much-deserved shout-out.
I’d also like to remind you to enter our latest competition too! All you have to do is refer your friends to the SDC for your chance to win a $100 voucher to Coles, Woolworths, ALDI or IGA! To refer a friend, email their name and email address here! You can also email us at
contact@seniorsdiscountclub.com.au.
Please note: You cannot email your friends name and email address without their permission, if you do so, your entry to the competition will be removed.
While you think about the answer to the riddle and get to referring your friends, let’s find out what’s happening across the world and around Australia today:
-
The cost-of-living crunch Aussies are facing is leaving no stone unturned. Even Woolworths is beginning to notice how shoppers are adjusting to the crisis. What could these changes be, and are you doing the same?
-
One of Australia’s iconic beer brands has a secret, and one mum’s been called ‘crazy’ for pointing it out. But what’s the verdict? Can YOU spot
it?
-
A Woolworths shopper has triggered a fierce debate online after pointing out there’s ‘food poisoning on sale’ at one store — did they take things too far?
-
One mum wanted her car’s interiors squeaky clean, but she ended up giving it a disastrous makeover. Do you feel like this ‘cleaning product’ was misleading?
-
Tsk, tsk. Yet another scam is doing the rounds, and this time it’s on Facebook. Read how one victim lost hundreds of dollars in one go.
-
Can you spot what's unusual about this bench? Shoppers noticed a unique detail at Woolworths — but there's controversy surrounding it…
-
Oh no, not those! Aussies vow to 'strike' after Arnott's announced the end of a beloved Tim Tam flavour: 'This is the worst day of my life.'
-
An ALDI shopper’s tile cleaning hack went viral — and it’s with a very unlikely buy! Will you be giving this a try?
-
An Aussie is fighting a texting while driving fine using a bizarre argument in court. No, really - it is truly bizarre. Do you think she is innocent?
-
A diner at a high-end restaurant was livid after their 'fabulous' meal because they spotted ‘an utter disgrace’ — what could it be?
-
Spoiled veggies are a hassle to deal with. Lucky for us, an Aussie mum shared a simple way to keep them greens fresh using a household item!
-
And on the topic of veg, you might want to know more about this simple recipe involving a known aphrodisiac…

Has anyone visited the Old Parliament House in Canberra? Unfortunately, there isn’t much context to this photo besides the fact that it was taken in the 1940s. It is said that the humble three-story structure was never meant to be a permanent location for the Australian Parliament, as it was built to serve for about 50 years. Currently, the building is a venue for various events, such as lectures and concerts. It also houses the Museum of Australian Democracy. Do you have any memories you’d love to share with other SDC members? Post them here at our Nostalgia/Yesterday’s Australia forum!

Got Health insurance? Your Premiums Are Going Up Yet Again*
A health insurance rate rise of 2.90% is what Aussies are being slapped with during a cost-of-living crisis. We’ve seen mortgage rates increase, grocery prices spike, petrol prices peak, and now our health insurance premiums will be increasing by an average of 2.90%.
From 1 April 2023, Australians over the age of 65 could be paying up to $167* more per year for their health insurance and that’s just for those of you who are not with one of the ‘Big Five’ health insurers - think BUPA, Medibank, HCF, nib and HBF - if you are with one of the ‘Big Five’ you could be paying up to $194* per year for the exact same cover you currently have.
