Week of January 3, 2023

Happy New Year! We hope that everyone had a wonderful holiday season and are reenergized for what lies ahead in 2023. There is a lot planned when it comes to continuing our commitment to being unparalleled and we can't wait to share more about that next week. Thank you for all you do!

Final Week for Doctor's Day Notes

This is the last week to send notes for Doctor's Day 2023. HMSL is lucky to have great physicians and we need your help telling them thank you for all they do. Please submit notes here by Friday, Jan. 6 and you'll receive an HMSL car shade as a gift. Gifts will be distributed via your manager or director in early February. Please contact Selina Garcia for any questions.

News You Can Use in 2023

As you begin to set your goals and rhythms for the New Year, we want the employee e-newsletter to be helpful to you — both as a place for news and information you need and want.

  • Helpful and commonly-accessed links are placed permanently at the top and bottom of the newsletter. These are here to alleviate the need to dig around to find them.
  • The Office of DEI's "DEI Corner" is published weekly and accessible via the link at the bottom of the newsletter.
  • The newsletter is accessible outside of email. You can scan the QR code on your badge buddy or subscribe to receive the newsletter via text. Scroll to the bottom of the newsletter for the link to sign up. If you need this badge buddy, please pick one up at security.
  • We want to showcase your helpful lifehacks or routines. Convenience Corner will continue into 2023 and we want it to be a space where the HMSL community shares personal tips or tricks to make life just a bit easier. Do you have one? Email Rashna Barge.
  • We will continue to spotlight unique employee stories. Last year, we shared this story about a 5W nurse whose journey to obtain American citizenship was anything but ordinary. We have more lined up for 2023 — including an HMSL staffer who took a bucket list trip to Italy for the Venice Film Festival. Do you know of a story like this? Email Eleanor Holmes.
  • Similarly, we highlighted improvements in departments that made a lasting impact on our staff. Take a moment to read about the Kaizen that helped EVS get organized and the Kaizen that helped save 4W nursing staff time administering medication. Does this make you think of an improvement or Kaizen that was impactful to you that should be highlighted? We want to hear about it. Email it to Eleanor Holmes.

In 2023, our goal is to make the newsletter a more-accessible and useful resource to stay informed and connected with the hospital. Please feel free to send any suggestions and ideas to Eleanor Holmes.

PATIENT COMPLIMENTS

Main 6 East Patient: "I went in for outpatient surgery expecting to go home the same day. When it became clear I was not capable of going home the same day, the AOD and recovery room staff helped me see that the overnight stay was the right choice for me, for which I was grateful."

Brazos 4 Patient: "Day and night nurses were available when ever I pressed the red button. Susan, Vivien and Sara and all others were at my beck and call. They all were very concerned about my needs. I have respect for them all. Thank you."

CT Patient: "Staff were professional in carrying out process and explaining the situation. They also explained the environment of my room and offered a blanket given the coldness of the room. Process was efficient and timely. I was pleased, though surprised, at how little time it took and the efficiencies."
