Welcome to the 23rd issue of Crash Towing Industry News.

Occupational authorisation

The Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure (DTMI) will soon introduce occupational authorisation for towing service providers to ensure that those in the crash towing industry are of fit and proper character.

This aligns with the Towing Services Act 2024 intent ‘to promote the safe, fair and efficient provision of services for regulated towing at a reasonable cost to consumers, and to improve and maintain the reputation of the towing industry.

It is proposed that the authorisation process will include:

  • a National Police Clearance for all directors, partners, trustees or responsible officers for towing service providers.
  • Provision of detailed information on the tow trucks used for crash towing, employees and contractors, close associates and interstate towing authorisations.

DTMI would appreciate your feedback on the proposed standards for occupational authorisation for towing service providers.
