The thing about living life is that there is always something, some loose thread. Even when everything feels nearly perfect, there is almost always something daunting, looming, hanging just at the periphery. The subtleties in these paintings, or in the case of the show’s title work State of Disrepair, the glaring truth, reveal the tiny cracks in life’s façade. That is the intention of this show: a nod to the perspective that it all can come wildly undone.

Of course, this is not limited to negative experiences. Instead, it suggests that there are always facets of life beyond our control. Some threaten to derail our desired trajectory, while others ripple outward with external consequences. That we as humans manage to hold things together and keep the veneer of control intact is nothing short of remarkable. This body of work is meant as a quiet homage to that resilience.

Stacy Leigh (b. 1971, New York, NY) attended New York University and currently lives and works in New York City. Most recently, Leigh has participated in exhibitions at Harper’s, New York, Los Angeles, and East Hampton (2024, 2023, 2022, 2021, and 2020); One World Art Foundation, Bangkok (2024); WOAW Gallery, Hong Kong (2023); Moskowitz Bayse, Los Angeles (2022); Nicodim Gallery, Bucharest and Los Angeles (2021 and 2020); 303 Gallery, New York (2021); Flag Art Foundation, New York (2019); and Fortnight Institute, New York (2017). Reviews of her work have appeared in Artnet, New Yorker, and Vogue Hong Kong, among other publications.
