CSJ launches 'More than a Game'
Harnessing the power of sport to transform the lives of disadvantaged young people
The Centre for Social Justice has launched "More than a Game: Harnessing the power of sport to transform the lives of disasvantaged young people", a report from the CSJ Sport Working Group. The launch was held on Tuesday 24 May 2011 at Stamford Bridge, supported by Chelsea Football Club Foundation. Speakers included Michael de Giorgio, Chairman of the CSJ Sport Working Group and CEO of the sport and performing arts charity Greenhouse, and Matthew Patten, Chief Executive of the Lord's Taverners.
The report focuses on the social policy role of sport, asking what outcomes, if any, can be expected from sport and how we can go about shaping policy to attain them. The report also questions the extent to which current sports policy is designed to achieve these objectives, makes recommendations as to how the sports world can be reshaped to deliver them and examines the thorny issue of the sporting legacy from the London 2012 Olympics.
