Dear Colleagues and Friends, I welcome you to the September edition of the AEC Newsletter. My home institution of RIAM is still 'coming down' from the excitement of hosting the International Relations Coordinator's conference this month. I can now attest first-hand to the joy it brought us to welcome friends to our institution for lively debates, some laughter and the sharing of knowledge. I look forward to seeing our community again in November for AEC’s Annual Congress in Milan. I wish the leadership and team in the Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi all the best in this intense preparation phase. As always, this was a busy month for AEC. We were delighted to join the representatives of the signatory organisations of the Vienna Declaration at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (mdw) on 27 September 2024. Five years have passed since the first meeting of the consortium. That core group wrote and promoted the Vienna Declaration, a policy document addressing political decision-makers, funding bodies, higher education and research institutions as well as other organisations and individuals catering for and undertaking Artistic Research. We took this as an opportunity to look back on what has been achieved, exchange experiences, and develop joint strategies for further advocacy actions in support of artistic research. Finally, a reminder relating to our recently circulated PRIhME survey - Implementation of PRIhME Recommendations in AEC Member Institutions. It will be one year since AEC General Assembly adopted the PRIhME guidelines, and we would like to track any changes or examples of good practice in this area. Deborah Kelleher, AEC President AEC takes part in the evaluation of Creative Europe and calls for increased funding and a closer connection between the cultural and creative sector and higher music education. On 27 September 2024, representatives from key organisations across Europe and beyond gathered in Vienna for a pivotal meeting focused on the future of artistic research advocacy. Relive with us this year’s edition of the IRC Meeting which took place at the Royal Irish Academy of Music (RIAM) in Dublin from 4 to 7 September. Responding to the wishes of many members and the increasing diversity of its network, the AEC is thrilled to announce the creation of this working group. Apply now!
