New Byte website launched

Kia ora,

The Byte Charitable Trust is pleased to announce we have a brand new website. Designed by Great Scott Communications in Christchurch, the site clearly sets out Byte’s aims and the reason we exist.
Byte stands for Brush Your Teeth Every day and that’s the simple message we are trying to spread. To prevent irreversible dental disease, we need New Zealanders to brush their teeth twice a day but we know from the Oral Health Survey (2009) that around half the population does not do this.
Our new website tells people who we are with brief descriptions of our trustees, it explains what to look out for on food labels to keep your mouth healthy and allows in-need groups to make requests for our Byte packs. More than ever, we are seeing at-risk groups in need of our packs and importantly, to keep the charity thriving, we are starting to partner organisations with these groups.
People can make requests and learn how a partnership works between agencies and dental practises or other sponsors. Visit the website now and take a look around.
Read the next story in our newsletter to learn more about these essential partnerships.

Partnerships

Partnerships are what keeps Byte providing toothbrush and toothpaste packs to our most at-need groups and organisations. In order to give Byte products to people who need them most, we are seeking to further pair up groups with dental practices and corporate organisations.
We’d like to take this opportunity to thank some of our current partners and urge others to do the same by donating to our charity and keeping the forward momentum.
Christchurch practice, Wisdom Dental is sponsoring the Cholmondeley Children’s Centre, Canterbury Dental Specialists are partnering with Te Tahi Youth and Norwest Dental is with Odyssey House. All partners logos and links to their own websites will be displayed on our Bye website to give them the recognition they well deserve.
If you or anyone you know would like to get behind our charity and help prevent irreversible dental disease, then please get in touch for an initial conversation. We have so much more to do and with your help, we can do it.

Packing Day

Every few months a small team of volunteers, including the Byte team, members of dental practices and students from Christ’s College service group get together to pack the individual parts of our Byte packs into a plastic sleeve. Our toothbrushes and toothpaste tubes (with simple instructions to brush your teeth twice a day for two minutes without rinsing the fluoride from your mouth) come from China and cost out at about $2 per Byte pack.

We held our latest one in June and managed to put together 5000 packs in just under two hours.
