Headteacher updateDear Parents & Carers, I hope you are all keeping warm, the weather is definitely much colder but we are still enjoying some beautiful sunny days! November has been an eventful month to say the least, not just because of the Children in Need activities that took place (see more further down in this newsletter) and because we have been busy planning for our Christmas Community event, but because of the unexpected closure days we experienced as a result of our electrical problems earlier in the month. I would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused by the disruption whilst the issue was sorted, and I am pleased to say that the problem was rectified quickly and efficiently by an external contractor together with our in-house maintenance team. Thank you to everyone involved. I look forward to catching up with those of you that are able to attend our Christmas event on Tuesday 19th December, and welcome those of you who are not able to visit us on the day to request a Teams slot with your child's Teacher or Therapist at a more convenient time. With kind regards, Thereza de Lucca Headteacher Christmas Community event - 19th DecLetters will be sent out shortly inviting all of our parents and carers to attend our next School Community Day on Tuesday 19th December. We will be holding three separate sessions, so the letters going out will contain the arrival and departure times for your specific slot. The letter also contains a confirmation slip at the bottom, so that we know in advance how many people are planning to attend each slot. We would be very grateful if you could return this to school as soon as possible. On the day, there will be a Christmas Fair, a Christmas Grotto, a range of Christmas activities plus a chance to meet with your child's Teacher or Therapist (these slots need to be booked in advance). It promises to be a wonderful day, we look forward to seeing you there! Upcoming dates for your diaryPlease see below some important dates for your diary:
Chair updateAs we reach the end of this calendar year, I would like to thank Thereza de Lucca and all of her staff, who have made great strides in further developing our school in 2023 and have been a pleasure to work with this year. In December, approaching Christmas, our thoughts are turning to celebrations within our community and I do hope that you will be able to join us for some of the festive events that are highlighted in this newsletter. With every good wish and kind regards, Julie Dr Julie Smith Chair of the Board Christmas Jumper DayDon't forget that on Thursday 7th December, we will be taking part in Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day. We know times are tough, so please remember that donations are optional (it’s having tons of fun that’s mandatory!) and any amount you can spare – 10p, 20p, 50p – makes you an awesome fundraiser. All that extra cash will go towards a wonderful cause, helping 200,000 mums and babies in Kenya get the food and medicine they need! (That’s a lot of mums and babies!) Remember, there’s no need to buy a new jumper. You could upcycle an old jumper, get crafty or head to your local charity shop to buy a pre-loved festive knit. If you want to get creative and decorate a jumper, the Christmas Jumper Day website contains lots of fun craft ideas. Children in Need fundraising effortsThanks to the fantastic efforts of our pupils and staff, we managed to raise £190.30 in total from our bake sale and 'bearpees' challenge. Thank you everyone once again for your help and support with our fundraising efforts. You can read more about our Children in Need activities by clicking the button below. Christmas time with a neurodivergent childChristmas time looks different, sounds different and even smells different. So it's not surprising that Christmas can be a tricky time for neurodivergent children or children with SEND. They may find it hard to adjust to all of the differences from their normal routines, or their senses become overwhelmed. Action for Children has some really useful tips on how to help your child cope over the festive period.
