NSEAD CPD to address the gender gap in artWhere Have All The Boys Gone (WHATBG)? Date and time: Wed 2 Mar and Thurs 24 Mar 17.00 – 19.15 Susan Coles will be running this course over two twilight sessions, with time in between to reflect on learning, and bring questions to the second session. Where: Online Nationally, twice as many girls than boys choose art and design at examination level. Cost: Members £75/non-members £125 Catch-up on the Anti-Racist Art Education Panel DiscussionOn 9 December 2021, we held a panel discussion with members of our Anti-Racist Art Education Action (ARAEA) group, chaired by artist and educator Paul Dash. It was an insightful and sobering conversation, touching upon lived experiences of racism within our educational system – There were also many inspiring ideas and practical examples of anti-racist actions and recommendations to take away. New podcast for schools on racism and mental healthIn a new series of five podcast episodes, Cyra Neave, Senior Clinician at the Anna Freud Centre, interviews a number of experts to talk about racism and mental health in schools. The podcast episodes feature the voices of experts, campaigners and teachers, including Rahi Popat from Keyham Lodge School, and Michelle Roddy and Wonu Salau from St. Bonaventure's School. National Saturday Club online exhibitionThe National Saturday Club members’ Self-Portrait Online Exhibition has just launched. This annual project introduces 13–16-year-olds nationwide to ideas of self-expression. In a simple A4 template, young people are encouraged to creatively explore their own sense of identity as well as themes including gender, class, race and representation. Creative Coalition Festival 2022When and where: 1 – 3 Feb, Online, free to attend The UK’s largest festival for the Creative Industries, featuring over 50 sessions, and over 200 creative speakers. The festival will blend talks and panels, live performances, practical workshops and networking opportunities - all streamed from across the UK. NUA photography competitionBeyond the Frame 2022: Curiosity This year's competition seeks photographs from students at Secondary (age 11+) or Further Education (e.g. school, sixth form or college, but not degree level) on the theme Curiosity. Acclaimed photographers Ade Àsìkò, Lucia Griggi and Emily Edwards will join the NUA judging panel to help pick the winners and award some great prizes. UAL Awarding Body: Take part in a paid online interviewUAL (University of the Arts London) Awarding Body have commissioned Shift Learning to conduct research to help them understand the delivery of qualifications in creative subjects at Key Stage 4. Shift Learning are interested in speaking to heads of departments and teachers across a range of creative subjects across the UK in a 40 minute online interview for which you would be offered £40 as a thank-you for your time. As well as how you are delivering creative subjects at the moment, Shift are particularly interested in hearing about your perceptions of Tech Awards for 14- to 16-year-olds (technical qualifications which can be studied alongside GCSEs). If you are less familiar with these qualifications, they would tell you more about them in the discussion to hear your thoughts. Your insights would help shape UAL Awarding Body’s future Tech Award qualifications, therefore it is vital to hear from teachers like you.
