VILLAGE BOARD APPROVES SCHEMATIC DESIGNS FOR  FACILITIES

At its April 22, 2025 meeting, the Northbrook Village Board approved schematic designs for a new Fire Station 11 at 820 Dundee Road and the adaptive reuse of 3504 Commercial Avenue for a Fleet Maintenance Garage—marking a key step in modernizing the Village’s public safety facilities.

The Village began evaluating Fire Station 11/Fire Headquarters, the Police Station, and the Fleet Maintenance Garage in 2016-2017 with facility condition assessments and public discussions as these three facilities were built 1971, 1974 and 1956 respectively. In 2021, the Village began the process to evaluate the need for renovation versus new construction, and review space needs.

After it was determined that the current locations of Fire Station 11 and the Fleet Maintenance Garage were insufficient in size and functionality to support renovation or expansion, the new sites were selected with long-term operational efficiency and sustainability in mind.   The Board’s direction allows the design / development phase to proceed, paving the way for future approvals and eventual construction.

Work is ongoing to select sites for the Police Station and Fire Headquarters as these decisions are also a key priority.
