Our program

AP4D has held three interactive dialogues in the past month:

Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing explored how Australia can work together with regional partners to deter, prevent and combat IUU Fishing. Thanks in particular to Pacific Islands Forum Fisheries Agency Director-General Dr Manumatavai Tupou-Roosen and Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center Secretary-General Malinee Smithrithee for their comprehensive regional overviews.

Australia and Timor-Leste: Shaping a Shared Future brought together more than 40 development, diplomacy and defence experts to discuss what Australia's priority areas of focus should be in engaging with Timor-Leste. AP4D is grateful to Timor-Leste's Ambassador to Australia, Her Excellency Ms Inês Maria De Almeida, and The Asia Foundation's Timor-Leste Country Representative, Héctor Salazar Salame, for their excellent remarks that set the scene for discussions.

Women, Peace & Security in the Pacific was the first dialogue in AP4D's Office of the Pacific-funded program. Peseta Noumea Simi, CEO of the Samoa Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and chair of the 2019 Pacific Women, Peace and Security Summit, kicked off proceedings with an authoritative overview of the Pacific WPS agenda. Dr Ludmilla Kwitko from the Australian Civil Society Coalition on WPS then provided valuable perspective on WPS in Australia, with subsequent discussions looking at how Australia can partner with Pacific countries to progress WPS efforts in the region.

AP4D is convening working groups to collaborate on options papers for each of the above topics. If you have relevant expertise and would like to be involved, please contact secretariat@asiapacific4d.com.
