REMINDER...TONIGHT!!!

Off the Hook Boutique & Gallery has been styling residents from Bay of Quinte and beyond for the past 10 years. They began with a humble start of trunk shows and a tiny 300 square feet showroom but have grown over the years to their new 2000 square foot boutique located at 35 Ontario Street across from Freshco. Their move in 2018 to this large space allowed them to expand their business, adding an art gallery and intimate event space.

The Nuts and Bolts of International Trade: Incoterms® 2020

It is easy to think international trade is all about convoluted acronyms that describe trade agreements that take a long time to negotiate. A sampling of the ones you have probably heard about recently include CPTPP, CETA and CUSMA.

Indeed, the trade world is not short of acronyms, but here is another crucial one for businesses to know called Incoterms®, which stands for International Commercial Terms.

Updated every 10 years, Incoterms® are developed by the International Chamber of Commerce to act as a common set of rules between exporters and importers in the course of international trade in goods. The reason they are used by buyers and sellers is that they provide a mutual understanding of who bears the costs and responsibilities at various stages of international trade transactions. Not using the appropriate Incoterms®, or at least the one you thought you were using, greatly affects a company’s bottom line. For this reason, we have partnered with Forum for International Trade Training to help Canadian businesses get up to speed on these new rules with a series of training sessions.

Read this month’s 5 Minutes for Business to learn more about how your business can navigate this acronym-saturated, but crucial, world.

ON Chamber Network Releases New Report Today!

“We are only as strong as our weakest link and our ability to prosper depends on the strength of our different regions. Our communities – and the province as a whole – risk falling behind if we do not leverage the rich and diverse competitive advantages of our local economies. We urge policymakers to take a modern and comprehensive approach to economic development by leveraging the existing competitiveness advantages of Ontario’s regions, and implement deliberate strategies to support long-term growth in communities across the province.”

• Today, the Ontario Chamber of Commerce (OCC) released a new report, The Great Mosaic: Reviving Ontario’s Regional Economies.
• The report outlines how government of all levels can work with industry to unleash the potential of Ontario’s regional economies and reinforce the competitiveness of the province as a whole.
• We are only as strong as our weakest link and our ability to prosper depends on the strength of our different regions.
• Economic and population growth rates in the Greater Golden Horseshoe and Ottawa have far surpassed those in other areas of the province.
• Our communities – and the province as a whole – risk falling behind if we do not leverage the rich and diverse competitive advantages of our local economies.
• The Great Mosaic: Reviving Ontario’s Regional Economies examines the opportunities and challenges faced by different communities across the province and offers a framework for thinking about the present and future of Ontario’s regional economies.
• We urge policymakers to take a modern and comprehensive approach to economic development by leveraging the existing competitiveness advantages of Ontario’s regions, and implement deliberate strategies to support long-term growth in communities across the province.

In 2014 Laura and Tony Tedball purchased Pine Ridge Knit and Sew, which has been in operation since 1986. They decided to get out of knitting supplies and have rebranded the business, re-opening as Groovy Threads Sewing Studio. “Creative people need selection and trying to cover knitting and sewing was impossible in our small spot,” said Laura. “I Love to sew and know so many others that do as well that are looking for a fresh, fun outlet to express themselves.”

In the new store, more space is dedicated to the machine showroom, which includes Husqvarna Viking sewing machines, sergers and embroidery machines. They also service most brands of sewing machines and sergers. NEW! Telemedicine Service

Effective September 1st, 2019, Chambers Plan will offer the Teladoc telemedicine service at no additional charge to all Plan members, and their dependents, who hold a Chambers Plan Extended Health Care benefit.

While Chambers Plan continues to provide stable, comprehensive group benefits to over 30,000 Canadian firms, we are always on the lookout for opportunities to provide you and your employees with even greater value. In a recent survey, 57% of Canadians reported they could not secure an appointment with their family doctor within 48 hours, and 76% of Canadians found it difficult to secure care during evenings, weekends and holidays.1 Not only is this adding strain to our healthcare system, leading to exceedingly long wait times in walk-in clinics and patients progressively seeking non-urgent care in emergency rooms, but it contributes to increased absenteeism in the workplace.
