Orientation Opportunities

This week's issue of My New Roots is about Orientation Opportunities! University is the next big step in everyone's educational pathways, and it can be pretty daunting. Orientation allows for an excellent time to learn not only about the University and what it has to offer, but also a great chance to make some great friends! This week, we will highlight some orientation events.

There are many Orientation programs that you can sign up for and each is designed with a specific purpose in mind. Each college at the St. George campus holds their own week-long traditional orientation program for their respective students right before classes start. Students can also attend other programs such as Black Student Orientation, IGNITE Academic Orientation and International Orientation. 

FUN FACT: Did you know that the week-long traditional orientation program is completely organized by students? Hope to see you planning it one of these years:D

Are you a Black student starting your journey at U of T? Do you want to celebrate Black culture, embrace community at the University of Toronto, and prepare yourself for the U of T experience? If you answered yes, Black Student Orientation is the event for you! 

Black Student Orientation (BSO) is a week-long series of events created for Black-identifying students from all 3 University of Toronto campuses. Designed by Black students, its purpose is to welcome and support Black students transitioning into university life and finding community on campus. Students can expect engaging panels, wellness spaces, active team games, a variety of food, music, a sunset field trip, and a final outdoor party. From start to finish, this is your chance to connect, learn, and celebrate community.  

BSO 2026 is completely free – you can attend BSO while still participating in your College or Faculty orientation events, so no need to choose between them! 

Join us at Black Student Orientation for a series of different events and vibes, food, prizes, and more! While drop-ins are welcome, the BSO registration form will be released mid-July. We look forward to seeing you there! Follow @uoftbso to get more updates on events!

Welcome BBQ!

Continue your Welcome Day experience at our Welcome BBQ! Join us on campus for an afternoon of fun, connection, and community. Meet other incoming New College students, enjoy free activities and food, explore the college, connect with student leaders, and get a head start on building your New College experience and friendships before Orientation begins. You are welcome to bring up to 2 guests!

• Time & Date: Wednesday, August 5, 2026 | 1:00pm – 4:00pm EST 

• Location: Fully in person event at New College.
