Free emissions reports help food and beverage manufacturers improve efficiency

WA agrifood and beverage manufacturers are invited to participate in the Energy Snapshot Study, a new DPIRD initiative to measure energy use, emissions and improve energy efficiency across the sector.

Launched last week and running until mid-April, the study will establish a clear picture of emissions sources and energy profiles across food and beverage subsectors – from dairy, seafood and meat processing, to beverages, baked goods, and packaged foods.

Businesses can take part by completing a confidential survey to gain insights into sector emissions and identify opportunities and barriers to emissions reduction.

Participating businesses receive several free benefits including:

  •  a personalised emissions benchmark report from RSM Australia, outlining how your business compares to others in the industry.
  • a WA food and beverage manufacturing insights report, including study findings, future industry opportunities, industry emissions benchmarks.
  • an exclusive invitation to the industry launch event, to present the study findings and an opportunity to network with industry peers.
  • a carbon footprint report (limited number available)

Eligible businesses can apply for assistance to calculate their carbon footprint. Worth several thousand dollars in the commercial marketplace, these reports include insights and recommendations to increase energy efficiency and reduce costs.

The initiative will inform DPIRD in the development of future programs and initiatives to support businesses become more energy efficient, competitive and resilient.

Find out more about the Energy Snapshot Study and complete the 10–15-minute survey on DPIRD website.

WA Government celebrates record grains harvest

The Western Australian Government congratulates Western Australia's valuable grains industry on delivering a 27.352 million-tonne harvest, the largest on record.

This achievement reflects industry's expertise and hard work to capitalise on favourable seasonal conditions and lifting crop production to new heights through science, innovation, and technology.

The record harvest builds on the successive gains in recent years, making the grains industry the largest contributor to the State's agriculture sector and a valuable export earner.

The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) has played a key role in this achievement, working alongside growers and industry partners to produce more grain from less rain in a drying climate.

DPIRD research collaborations have advanced soils, agronomy, crop genetics, and farming systems research and development to lift yield potential and overcome challenges to grain quality.

The department's legacy is being celebrated this month with the thirtieth anniversary of the GRDC Grains Research Updates industry conference in Perth, together with the Grains Industry Association of WA.

Crop production in WA has transformed over the past three decades, with the adoption of minimum tillage, soil amelioration practices, crop diversification, and variable rate technology contributing to improvements in water and nutrient use efficiency.

The WA Government investments are helping WA stay at the forefront of grains science, ensuring the industry remains internationally competitive.
