PATRIOT DAY MEMORIAL

Today, on September 11, we pause to remember the lives lost, the bravery of first responders, and the resilience of our nation. This day continues to serve as a reminder of both the tragedy we endured and the strength we found in coming together as a country. Earlier today, the Northbrook Fire Department hosted the Annual Patriot Day Memorial at all three fire stations, with a special service at Station 11 featuring the Fire Department and Police Department Honor Guard. May we never forget and always carry their legacy forward.

A SYMBOL OF UNITY: PEACE POLE DEDICATED AT VILLAGE HALL

On September 9, the Village of Northbrook and the Northbrook Rotary Club unveiled a new Peace Pole in front of Village Hall. Village staff, Rotary Club members, and representatives from the Village Community Commission attended the ceremony. Village President Kathryn Ciesla and Rotary Club Representative Donna Gulley shared remarks highlighting the monument’s significance.

“This Peace Pole reflects the same themes of our Welcoming and Inclusive Community Pledge, first adopted in 2021 and reaffirmed in 2025,” the Village President said. “It is a visible reminder of our commitment to fostering a Village where everyone feels welcome, safe, and valued, regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, gender identity, age, or any other characteristic.”

Peace Poles are monuments that display the message “May Peace Prevail on Earth.” Northbrook’s pole features the languages most commonly spoken in the community, symbolizing respect, inclusion, and collaboration. Its dedication comes just ahead of the International Day of Peace on September 21. The Village thanks the Northbrook Rotary Club for the gift of the Peace Pole and the Community Commission for their partnership in making this installation possible.
