Benefits of the new aaaplay website

The aaaplay website has relaunched with a new look and improved functionality.  Find out more about the website, and the story behind it below.

With the previous site needing a complete overhaul, a collaborative approach between Sport and Recreation Victoria (Victorian Government) and Reclink Australia was undertaken.

Improvements to the website include meeting some of the highest digital accessibility standards (WCAG 2.2 AAA) with increased functionality to make it easier for people with disability to find sport and activities in their area.

The website has been developed with a co-design group of members from the disability sector.  The co-design group were involved and consulted from the beginning of the process. This included everything from how things looked to the functionality of how things worked. The end result was a website that looks good and functions well.

Features of the website include:

  • Updated search tool with better functionality
  • Improved user experience for people using assistive technology tools
  • Improved accessibility
  • Option for organisations to upload programs directly to the website
  • News articles, featured events and stories from aaaplayers
  • Updated facilities information.

One of the members of the co-design group, Shannon shared her reflections below:

"It is vital that website be designed with the disability community, and I applaud aaaplay's inclusion model"
