Thursday Edition
Good morning, members, and happy Thursday! How are we all doing today? We hope you are all staying warm on this cold winter day. Us? It’s freezing here in Sydney, and it’s raining too! So, if you have any tips on how to stay warm, please share them with us on our forum. Anyway, enough about the weather, let’s get down to business. As we do every morning, we have a stellar lineup for you today, so make yourself comfortable, grab a cuppa and enjoy!
First up on the agenda, it’s time to give you all the answer to yesterday’s tricky riddle. For those of you who don’t remember, the riddle goes:
Can you write down eight eights so that they add up to one thousand?
Yes, you can! The answer is 888 + 88 + 8 + 8 + 8 = 1000. We thought this one would stump you, but a fair few of you got it correct! So, if you did, stick around because you’ll find a shoutout waiting for you at the end of the newsletter.
Next, we have our Fascinating Fact for the week!
Did you know that there are almost 5 billion internet users in the world? That’s approximately 63% of the world’s population! And if you think that’s a lot, consider this: by 2030, it’s estimated that there will be nearly 8 billion internet users worldwide. That’s 90% of the projected world population of 8.5 billion. How’s that for a Thursday fascinating fact?

Remember when women rode their bikes in skirts? How did they keep the skirts from getting caught in the spokes? With those nifty little skirt guards, of course! Women didn’t have slacks to ride in back then, so they were left with their long skirts. These guards made it possible to ride without fear of an embarrassing accident. Men, on the other hand, would wear bicycle clips on their pants to keep them from getting caught in the chain.

There were some backwoods hillbillies living across the river from each other who feuded constantly. John hated Clarence with a passion and never passed up a chance to throw rocks across the river at Clarence.
This went on for years until, one day, the Corps of Engineers came to build a bridge across that river. John was elated; he told his wife that he would finally get the chance to cross over and whip Clarence.
Ahaha, this is hilarious! A big thank you to member @Fisherman2320 for sharing this one. Check out the rest of the joke here.

The first stop sign appeared in the USA in Detroit in 1915. Originally, they were square-shaped, measuring 2 feet by 2 feet and featured black letters on a yellow background. It wasn’t until 1954 that the stop sign became the bright red colour, adorned with white letters. The Australian national standard for stop signs was agreed upon in 1935. The country would later adopt the red octagon and white letter format we see today.
