Thursday Edition
Good morning members, and happy Thursday! Any big plans for today? Maybe trying out some hacks or treating yourself with a sumptious meal? Either way, we hope you spoil yourself because you deserve it. Actually, speaking of delicious meals, why not go all out and pair them with a smooth and high quality wine from our friends at Pure Vision? They're giving SDC members a 15% discount when you use the code 'SENIORS15' at the checkout. Pure Vision offers organic wines that are 100% free of preservatives, so they’re not only delicious, but will leave you feeling better than the average wine! A big thanks to member 'Ken The Wine Guy' (who we of course, nicknamed) for reaching out and ever so generously offering this discount to our lovely community.
Now, let’s get right into the swing of things, shall we?
First things first, it’s time to give you all the answer to yesterday’s brain-busting riddle. For those of you who don’t remember, the riddle goes:
An eye in a blue face saw an eye in a green face. ‘That eye is like this eye.’ Said the first eye, but in a low place, not high.
This one was a toughie, no doubt, but it turns out, a few of you know that the answer is "sun on daisies." This puzzling riddle appeared in The Hobbit when Bilbo Baggins was in Gollum’s caverns. So the “eye in a blue face” refers to the sun in the blue sky, while the “eye in a green face” represents a flower in a field. You know the drill, folks! If you got the answer correct,
stick around, and you’ll find a shoutout waiting for you at the end of the newsletter.
Next up on our Thursday agenda is our Fascinating Fact of the week! On top of sleeping, eating, and pooping, babies spend plenty of time crying. That is the only way babies can communicate. While they may scream and wail, newborns don’t shed tears. Tear ducts do not fully develop in infants until they are one to three months old, so parents will not notice actual teardrops. How's that for a Thursday fact?
Now then members, what’s happening in Australia and around the world in the news today?

Who had a pair of these as a kid? We used these without knee or elbow pads, helmets, or other protective gear. Many kids broke an arm or skinned their knees back in the day but kept going. We were a tough bunch, weren't we? (We still are!)

Irish Wolfhounds are said to be the world’s tallest dog breed. The Irish Wolfhound stands between 28 and 35 inches tall, whereas the Great Dane stands between 28 and 32 inches tall. Historically, the Irish Wolfhound’s astonishing size, speed, and intelligence made them ideal animals for hunting wolves and boars, though they are quite docile and friendly in nature.
