Publishers note

If sport is your thing, then this has been the week for you. In the south Wyndham Harbour played host to the Offshore Superboat championship. Described as “brutal and brilliant” by the organisers, who were grateful for the brilliant sunshine on both days to complement what was two exciting, yet punishing days of racing.

On Sydney Harbour, the much-coveted SailGP got the attention deserving of a major international event. Doing Aussies proud, Tom Slingsby and his Australian crew were crowned champions of the KPMG Australia Sail Grand Prix - Sydney, flying home in front of an ecstatic and vibrant ‘Genesis Island’ crowd and a jam-packed Sydney Harbour to clinch the sensational win from Denmark and New Zealand in the three-boat final.

Across the ditch, Auckland delivered the New Zealand Millennium Cup with the ultra-impressive Perseus^3 participating. Whilst no doubt the competition would have been worth watching, the vision of Perseus^3 would have been mesmerising. Built by Perini Navi, they say that it is second in the 60m of the series, built for yet another Perini Navi owner who chose to create his own Perini. The design brief called for Perseus^3 to feature the tallest carbon fibre mast ever built, and thanks to its unique bowsprit, the biggest downwind sail area ever seen on a yacht. Yep – I’d like to own that!
