Doing Aussies proud, Tom Slingsby and his Australian crew were crowned champions of the KPMG Australia Sail Grand Prix - Sydney, flying home in front of an ecstatic and vibrant ‘Genesis Island’ crowd and a jam-packed Sydney Harbour to clinch the sensational win from Denmark and New Zealand in the three-boat final. Across the ditch, Auckland delivered the New Zealand Millennium Cup with the ultra-impressive Perseus^3 participating. Whilst no doubt the competition would have been worth watching, the vision of Perseus^3 would have been mesmerising. Built by Perini Navi, they say that it is second in the 60m of the series, built for yet another Perini Navi owner who chose to create his own Perini. The design brief called for Perseus^3 to feature the tallest carbon fibre mast ever built, and thanks to its unique bowsprit, the biggest downwind sail area ever seen on a yacht.
