3Dhealth Turns 20! ![]() January 16th marked the 20th anniversary of 3Dhealth working with our partners (clients) across the country! We are enjoying the milestone and beyond excited for the future. For this anniversary edition, we asked Shane to reflect on the past 20 years as well as the future of 3Dhealth. Why did you decide to start 3Dhealth? I had been a Director at a larger consulting company for about 4 ½ years in Chicago. It was a great experience and the equivalent of getting your PhD in how to be a healthcare consultant. But, I was ready for a new challenge and believed I could create a new experience that partners would prefer. Personally, I was hoping to replace my income before I ran out of the 6 months of bill money I had saved! Why do you believe that partners have responded well to 3Dhealth? We created something different and made it easy to do business with us. We combine topical focus and expertise with best in industry data, primary research and a partner service model that is hard to beat. In addition, we are the only company within our space offering our expertise on a subscription basis. What was the biggest challenge that 3Dhealth faced over the last 20 years? It is extremely difficult when events outside of your control impact the economy and your business. When the economy crashed in 2008, our revenue was off by about 50%. We had a similar experience in early 2017 during the repeal and replace Obamacare debate, and the pandemic has been brutal on our partners. We have found that the only way to get through the tough times is to innovate and drive value to our partners. Many of the characteristics that people love most about 3Dhealth were created during the tough times. Why do you invest so heavily in data and research? We have found that off the shelf data often times is aged, not particularly detailed and does not deliver the answers our partners are looking for. So, we have combined primary research with proprietary data and hired 7 of the best Research Associates in the industry. As a result, we have a team and a system that can get our partners answers that no one else in the industry can provide. What are you most proud of about 3Dhealth? The roster of partners that we have the honor of working with is truly humbling. We work with most of the largest health systems in the country, regional health systems, academic medical centers, community hospitals, rural hospitals, children’s hospitals, physician groups, payers and associations. And, we chase and service every piece of business like it is our first. If you had to pick just one thing, what makes 3Dhealth different? It is the combination of our people and our culture. We have hand picked every person at 3Dhealth. We enjoy virtually no employee turnover. Ron started with us as an Analyst and is now President. Sarah started with us in college and is now a Manager. Joe started as an Analyst and is now a Consultant, and Cormac worked with us in college and is now a fulltime Research Associate. Travis was the key to helping us establish our desired culture which is a strange mix of innovation, analysis, speed things up, laugh, perfect, learn, grow and wow partners. What do you see for the future of 3Dhealth? I see continued growth and innovation – growth of our partner base, innovation in what and how we do things and continued growth of our team. In 20 years, I have never been this excited about the team we have built. Over the last 20 years Travis, Ron and I have evolved 3Dhealth from the vehicle that "Shane does consulting" to a nationally recognized firm with a talented team far beyond just my abilities. I know that I have another good 10 years left to work and that Ron is better prepared to lead 3Dhealth than I was when we started, ensuring that 3Dhealth will continue to do great work for decades to come. After talking to our partners and our team, and working with B&CO, we have a new understanding of the best way to describe ourselves, a new logo, a new website, new partner deliverables and an overall fresh look and feel. We are super excited about the evolution and believe it best represents where we are as a company. Keep your eyes peeled for the changes! ![]() ![]() ![]() During the latter half of 2021 we completed consumer research with over 69,000 potential patients focused on their willingness to wait to see a particular physician specialty. As a result, we now have patient access benchmarks that are specialty-specific vs. primary care or specialists.
