Director's Updates

July is here, and we’re thrilled to be launching nine great new projects. This adds to the sixteen continuing projects, all geared toward supporting our producers to build long-term sustainability and resilience into their businesses.

Recent highlights were a successful ‘Better Beef Business’ forum in Kununurra, organized by Mel McDonald, KPCA, and a workshop on cattle reproductive health at Hillside Station, Pilbara, organized by Krystie Bremer, GPRI. (read more). On 13 July we’re supporting our first “Drought cycle” workshop in Alice Springs, delivered by Bush Agribusiness and NTCA, which is shaping up to be a great day.

Staff-wise, we’re sorry to lose Nadia Rimmer and Hassie Mendis from the office, but thrilled with our newest Project Manager, Shubhashi Chand who you’ll hear from soon. I’ve stepped into the role of Director (almost … one more step), which means we’re now down one Knowledge Broker.

Maybe we’ll see you soon at one of the upcoming agricultural conferences taking place in Darwin: Agronomy Australia, Nuffield Scholars, and Australian Rangelands Society.

Soils Coordinator update - Oscar Guidici

Recent tour of the Cotton Gin in Kununurra.        In the centre (blue shirt): Oscar Giudici

My first few months as Regional Soil Coordinator (previously an Agronomist)  have reinforced just how diverse the soils and agricultural systems of the Northern Territory and northern Western Australia really are. A recent meeting with soil coordinators from across Australia highlighted ideas and opportunities that could help our region, while also reminding me that the best solutions will come from working closely with local industry.
