OSHA’s National Safety
Stand-Down Spans May 3-7
Fatalities caused by falls from elevation are a leading cause of death among construction employees. In fact, BLS data indicates they accounted for 320 of the 1,008 construction fatalities recorded in 2018. Those deaths were preventable.
In conjunction with OSHA's National Safety Stand-Down event, ASA-HC is asking all members to plan or participate in a safety stand-down during the week of May 3-7. What is a safety stand-down? It’s a voluntary event that gives employers the opportunity to talk directly with workers about fall hazards, and to reinforce the importance of fall prevention. The purpose behind OSHA's National Fall Prevention Stand-Down is to raise awareness and prevent fall hazards in construction.

ASA-HC MEMBER NEWS OF NOTE
ASA-HC Members Take Top Honors in
ASA Awards Event
ASA’s February 25 national awards ceremony was a virtual event this year, and included recognition for a number of ASA-HC member companies.
Certificate of Excellence in Ethics
EyeSite Surveillance, Inc., Haley-Greer, Inc. and Holes Incorporated all received ASA’s prestigious Certificate of Excellence in Ethics recognition. This program is not a traditional award competition, but instead recognizes subcontractors for their commitment to ASA values such as quality construction and a safe
and healthy work environment. Each applicant responds to questions concerning the firm’s corporate ethics policies and procedures, its construction practices and general business practices. They must also submit detailed documentation, including sealed letters of recommendation from a customer, a competitor and a supplier. ASA honors selected firms that demonstrate the highest standards of internal and external integrity during an awards ceremony honoring those firms for their stellar work. Annual Safety Recognition
ASA recognized Chamberlin Roofing & Waterproofing as part of its new Annual Safety Recognition program. The honor was due to Chamberlin’s participation in ASA-HC’s Commitment To Safety (CTS) program, and for their own internal safety efforts. The program represents ASA’s commitment to recognizing members in each chapter that prioritize safety and safety education. The companies recognized are those that go above and beyond to ensure their employees — and everyone on the job site — goes home to their families after every workday. Executive Director of the Year
ASA-HC Executive Director Brianna Wright was named Executive Director of the Year, along with her North Texas counterpart Beverly Reynal. As ASA noted, both directors tackled unforeseen economic obstacles with determination and commitment. From coordinating educational resources for members, to evaluating and updating safety practices to help members continue working during a pandemic, to mobilizing efforts to collect PPE and make it available to members, Beverly and Brianna used their talents and resourcefulness to help members navigate unprecedented circumstances.
