MARINE BUSINESS NEWS UPDATE

NEWS UPDATE

30 September 2022

Publishers note

This week started with the news that IBEX2022 had to be cancelled due to the looming arrival of Hurricane Ian. IBEX is one of two huge international industry B2B events that occur annually and present our industry with the opportunity to show new technology and help support the future R & D path. Given the challenges shows have had in recent years, this is a blow not only to the organisers but also the thousands of industry members who participate in one way or another.

Also this week, in news from Victoria is the story that some Life Members are calling for caution. Speaking on behalf of the group, John Temple, ex supremo of Mercury Marine and Life Member, has spoken about their concerns at the lack of transparency in relation to a possible merger for BIAV members.

Whilst some want to ignore the subject matter, others are embracing it.  Most industries can’t simply stumble into the future, they must work towards it and have a forward vision. This week we have several stories looking at the future of boating, one from Torqeedo and their work with Houseboats. The other looks into the future and envisages what life would be like living in eco-friendly vessels on the water.

In hindsight, maybe saying that looking into the future is naive given how much of this is already on our doorstep.

This week’s enews shares 14 stories since our last newsletter, that is less than half of all the stories we have published on the Marine Business News page this week.
