New permanent exhibition in Castlemaine celebrates First Nations People

An extraordinary new exhibition sharing and celebrating Jaara stories and teachings has opened at Castlemaine’s historic Market Building.

Exhibition co-curator and senior Jaara cultural custodian, Uncle Rick Nelson, officially launched Boorp Boorp Boondyil on Friday 28 October.

Boorp Boorp Boondyil is pronounced ‘Boorp’ as in ‘torpedo’ and ‘Boondyil’ as in ‘book’, and is a name gifted to the project by Uncle Rick Nelson.

The interactive exhibition features a range of stunning artworks, each designed to offer a unique and immersive insight into Jaara culture, Country and community. 

Boorp Boorp Boondyil is free and open seven days a week, from 9.00am to 5.00pm at the Castlemaine Market Building, 44 Mostyn Street, Castlemaine.
