DALI Lighting Awards 2021 Winners RevealedRecognizing the best use of DALI lighting control applications and solutions across the world, the standard of entries within each of the eight categories was exceptionally high. Azure Space, KSat, RBC Signals, SSC, Viasat RTE: Satellite Ground Station Expansion is Still AcceleratingAll these companies said the days of building a dedicated ground network for a given customer and then letting the ground station sit half-used is over. Ground stations now are multi-tenant installations where data from multiple customers can be processed through the same antennas. MIPI DevCon 2022 Call For Presentations Now Open Implementers of MIPI specifications are invited to submit a presentation proposal to share their technical knowledge, application example or use case at this year's MIPI DevCon. The virtual event on 20-21 September will focus on the latest solutions in mobile and application areas such as 5G, automotive and IoT. If you would like to share your experience with a global audience of developers, system architects, engineers and others in the mobile and mobile-influenced ecosystems, view the speaker guidelines and submit your proposed topic by 23 May. MIPI A-PHY Automotive Forum On Demand For those who missed the live event and would like to learn more about the SerDes interface, visit the MIPI website to access the recording. MIPI CSI-2 and A-PHY Specifications UpdatedMIPI Alliance recently announced the adoption of MIPI A-PHY℠ v1.1 and MIPI CSI-2® v4.0, featuring key enhancements to these specifications. Enhancements in MIPI A-PHY v1.1 include doubling of the downlink bandwidth to 32 Gbps, a faster uplink gear with an available data rate of up to 200 Mbps, and the addition of optional PAM4 encoding for downlink gears G1 and G2. Version 1.1 has also been submitted for adoption as an IEEE standard. Last year, IEEE adopted A-PHY v1.0 as IEEE 2977-2021. Read more about the latest version of MIPI A-PHY. The new version of MIPI CSI-2 adds an advanced always-on imaging solution for ultra-low-power machine vision applications, multi-pixel compression for the latest generation of advanced image sensors and RAW28 color depth to provide unprecedented image quality and superior signal-to-noise (SNR) ratio. Read more about the new features in MIPI CSI-2 v4.0. INCREASED INTEROPERABILITY FOR SMART PARKING, TRAFFIC AND ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORINGThe TALQ Consortium has published a new version of the protocol. With the release of the Specification version 2.4.0 the evolution of the software protocol continues and several new profiles, like environmental monitoring, smart parking and traffic, have been included. Special Contribution: Rebuilding Trust: A Path Toward More Holistic Cybersecurity: An Internet Governance Forum DiscussionAuthor: Kristen Little, IEEE SA Often, the general public thinks of cybersecurity as “IT security”, yet it covers much more than that. Data collection, transparency, trust, communication, and collaboration have become increasingly vital in a world exploding with ever more connected devices. IEEE addressed this topic during an Internet Governance Forum (IGF) 2021 Lightning Talk session we hosted entitled “Rebuilding Trust: A Path Toward More Holistic Cybersecurity”. IGF was created as a forum in which to discuss public policy issues related to the internet, and this year’s IGF was attended by over 10,000 people from 175 countries. ITEMS OF INTERESTThe Future of a Patient-Centered Remote Patient Monitoring (RPM) System is Highly Competitive and InnovativeEvery generation gets to interpret its history and its technology advances as it pleases. In the realm of technology, our current generation(s) see the Internet as one of the more transformational technologies that humans have created, with the potential to bring widespread benefits across the globe in terms of peace, mutual economic development and friendship.Cloud Software Cuts Through Biomedical Data Thickets SciosHub’s SaaS can curate and compute data Biomedical researchers have a tough task in managing the massive amounts of data they collect. Although programs do exist to help, including off-the-shelf spreadsheets and downloadable open-source solutions, they typically require an IT background, which many researchers lack. WEBINARS ON HOT TOPICSFireside Chat about Standardization of Federated Machine LearningAn Overview of Federated Machine Learning from Industry ExpertsFederated learning allows multiple parties to collaboratively build and use machine learning models on distributed and secure data sources while preserving privacy. In this event, you will hear from two of the top minds in Federated Machine Learning (FML) as they discuss identified challenges and potential impacts, and speak to the newly published standard IEEE 3652.1-2020 about FML.
