Meet the Members

Jack Gane & Jack Connell

This year, Royals Volleyball Club will be ably lead by two experienced Head Coaches - Jack Gane and Jack Connell. Taking on the Men's and Women's Programs respectively, the 'Double J's' bring a wealth of playing and coaching experience to the club this year.

2023 is looking like a big year for Royals with their Premier Men looking to defend their CVL title, and their Premier Women hoping to break into the winners circle.

We talked all things Volleyball, hidden talents and sporting achievements with Jack & Jack!

What position do you play?

Gane: I played Libero through my junior representative days. I play Libero or Pass Hit these days.

Connell: Libero

Do you prefer indoor or beach? Why?

Gane: I prefer indoor Volleyball. I enjoy the pace, strategy, and position specialization of the indoor game. Beach is still awesome though.

Connell: Indoor. Having to work together and trusting everyone in the squad to get the results you are after. There is nothing better than winning a with a team.

What is your greatest sporting achievement?

Gane: Becoming a Tae Kwon Do Instructor was really cool, and I am proud to have completed some Ultra-Marathons. But it's hard to beat coaching ACT Volleyball.

Connell: Playing U23’s for Australia and winning three AVL Gold Medals with the Canberra Heat.

What is the most important lesson Volleyball has taught you?

Gane: You can never achieve anything in life on your own, life is a team sport. Volleyball has also taught me that investing time and energy into communities of like-minded, good people is always worthwhile.

Connell: The importance of a ‘team first’ attitude

Do you have any hidden talents?

Gane: I can translate what Connell is saying. I am also a qualified Carpentry Trainer.

Connell: “He can talk without breathing” – Jack Gane

Who would play you in a movie about your life?

Gane: Jack Connell

Connell: Jack Gane

What are you most looking forward to in 2023?

Gane: Lots of Volleyball! Beach Youth Champs in Coolangatta, coaching the Royals ladies, Coaching Indoor Youth Champs again, Playing CVL. I’ve got an exciting year ahead in my job at Master Builders Association too.

Connell: Travelling to Bahrain to compete in the Asian Club Champs with the Canberra Heat.
