Southeast Asia Symposium

AP4D held a symposium today on Australia and Southeast Asia: Shaping a Shared Future. This marked the culmination of the first component of AP4D's inaugural program. The Southeast Asian Options Papers and Synthesis Report are now available to read, download and share on the AP4D website.

In a great endorsement for AP4D and its mission, more than 150 people attended the official launch which featured messages from Minister for Foreign Affairs Marise Payne and Shadow Minister for International Development and the Pacific and Shadow Minister Assisting for Defence Pat Conroy.

In addition to the official launch, AP4D has also held over a dozen private briefings with more than 50 parliamentarians, advisors and officials, including briefings to the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Department of Defence, Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, Australian Federal Police, and the Joint Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade.

Thank you to everyone involved in the Southeast Asia component of AP4D's inaugural program. Scroll down to read about the Pacific component which is just getting underway.

Our program

As the first component of AP4D's inaugural program draws to a close, the second is well under way.

Throughout late-2021 AP4D hosted twenty online diagnostic discussions with regional experts and practitioners that identified challenges and opportunities relating to Australia's approach to the Pacific.

These diagnostics will provide the foundation for AP4D's Pacific Islands Dialogue, where experts and practitioners from across the development, diplomacy and defence communities and around the region will determine priority areas of focus.

As with the Southeast Asia component, these focus areas will guide the subsequent Options Papers working group process and culminate in an AP4D Pacific Islands Symposium in June 2022.

AP4D's Pacific Islands Dialogue is being held on February 22, from 12-1:30pm (AEDT). If you would like to attend please contact secretariat@asiapacific4d.com.
